Ahead of our big FA CUP clash at Goodison Park tomorrow here is the view from www.themerseyjuror.co.uk.
As an Evertonian I am in no way looking forward to this game. Things off the pitch are taking over for us at the minute. We are absolutely skint, will not (by the looks of it) be making any additions to the squad. We have let 3 of our 1st team squad go in Pienaar, Yakubu and Vaughan. Our squad is so poor but the club are ran so badly by Bill Kenwrong that there is nothing we can do about it so we will have to go with what we have got.
We are having a terrible season so far. only won half a dozen games and there are plenty of reasons for this. We do raise our game when the so called 'bigger clubs' come to town. There is no doubt Chelsea have lost Everton as a club during the Abramovich era but that is another story. On the pitch it is 11 men against 11 men. We are so short of quality but in the likes of Louis Saha we have a potential match winner. He is so often out injured but if he plays tomorrow we have a glimmer of hope. Jermaine Beckford is raw at this level but he also knows were the net is.
Behind them is Marouane Fellaini. Without question he is our player in form and is carrying Mikel Arteta so we need him to be on his game. Chelsea are so strong all over the park but the big curly haired fella can play against the best. On the wings we are struggling on the left without the superb Steven Pienaar but maybe this is the Russian (Bilyaletdinov) chance to shine as Leighton Baines is crying out for someone to link up with on that side. The right side sorts itself out with Neville an Coleman and although its not great, they can cause problems.
We need to be strong at the back with the likes of Drogba (the best in the country in my opinion), Anelka, Lampard and Malouda bombing forward. Whether Jagielka is brought back in for Heitinga is a question for the manager but whoever plays the need to form a good pairing with the pretty much faultless Silvain Distin.
We have started playing 4-4-2 recently since the departure of Cahill to the Asia cup (who will be sorely missed tomorrow) and it definitely makes us a more attacking outfit but as chelsea have runners from all over the park I don't know if Moyes will go back to his usual negative 4-5-1 system. Whatever he does I hope he does it right or our season will be over.
All in all I don't fancy our chances one bit but its all about who shows up on the day. Goodison can be rocking on these big occasions but with thousands of tickets still available (as people are starting to use other methods of venting their anger at the board), I cant see the atmosphere intimidating this Chelsea team much. They are on form and as I said earlier are very very strong all over the park.
Anyways here's hoping for an Everton win and a decent game all in all ;-)
