Chelsea to up the stakes in new bid for David Luiz?.

In the Daily Mail is the continued rumours that involve Chelsea's reported interest in Benfica's Brazilian Defender, David Luiz. We all know that Chelsea offered Benfica some money deemed unacceptable by the Portuguese side, but it's believed that Chelsea are still in the hunt for the player.

Now, if reports are to believed, Chelsea are prepared to offer around £21m for the player and in addition Chelsea right back Paulo Ferreira who is valued at around £4m, taking the total fee to be around £25m.

I have to say that although we have had our injury problems at centre half this season, (as we never ever expected Alex and Terry to have problems at the same time) but what happens when Alex returns to full fitness alongside JT?. Ivanovic will more than likely be forced out to Right Back again (where he doesn't want to play apparently) so where on earth would a £25m player fit in?.

I know some people may find this strange as we do need cover and that has been made blatantly obvious because of what's happened this season, but do we really honestly think that Carlo would spend that amount of money on someone that wouldn't be a regular starter?.

What about the player? Would he want to come for that money knowing he would be one of four World Class centre halves fighting for just two places?.

As for Paulo Ferreira, maybe just maybe it's his last season in a Chelsea shirt anyway. Carlo will be looking to freshen things up at the Bridge and may look to offload Paulo in order to bring in a younger player looking long term.

Like I have said, I would seriously doubt ever such a move for Luiz would happen but if Paulo was offered a chance to return to his native Portugal then I don't think anyone would stand in his way. He has been a fantastic servant to the club.
