In his pre-match press conference last night Didier Deschamps has spoken of the game and of the problems Chelsea have had in recent weeks. He believes the situation regarding Ray Wilkins has unsettled the side. He said:
"I know them very well, There is a lot of respect and confidence and sincerity between the two of them. I don’t think it’s a good thing for Carlo to have lost Ray Wilkins. I think it could possibly have unsettled the players because he was very much appreciated by the players. You have to say pretty much as expected as Deschamps prepares his side to face Chelsea in the best moment they can. Chelsea's form isn't good and with a packed Velodrome expecting Marseille to provide Chelsea with a stern test he is simply stating the facts and nothing more. Adding a little bit of pressure on Carlo and his staff.
Ancelotti has a certain power but he has people above him, a president, who decides, He has to accept it and adapt to it.
Obviously it’s crucial for a manager to be able to depend upon the ability of his staff and above all to have complete confidence in them.”
What he has said about having faith and ability in your staff and having to accept and adapt to decisions made from "upstairs" is what I have written about on here already.
Chelsea will need to be up and at it tomorrow as it could be a long night.
