Salomon Kalou also spoke after Zilina last night has has warned the rest of the Premier League to be aware of Chelsea's "angry" big players when they return to the side!.
He said:
“The injured players will bring their experience. They have been out for a while and when they come back they will bring that anger that a player has when he has not played for a long time. That can help the team. You have to give credit where credit is due, Kalou has it spot on. Despite our bad period we have had we ARE still top of the Premier League (on goal difference) and it could have been a hell of a lot worse.
Last season when we were in the period where we were not winning games, we were in third position, I think, This season, even without winning games, we are still in first position. We are in a better position that we were last season so we need to go back to the level we were playing at the beginning of the season.
I wouldn’t say that teams are not scared of us. We’re just in a period where things are not going the way we want. Every team goes through that. At the moment even though we’re not winning games and we’re not scoring lots of goals, we’re still top of the league. When we get back to our level, I think we are going to have a good run again. We are still in a great position and still the same team, the same players.
The confidence just has to be back in the team and you only do that by winning games.”
The simple fact remains that if you take Alex, John Terry, Frank Lampard and Michael Essien out of the Chelsea team at the same time then of course we are going to suffer. These are key players, players that form an important spine of our side right through the middle.
You can imagine that JT, Essien and especially Frank Lampard are itching to get back playing after seeing what they have before last night and when they do come back I have no doubt's in my mind that Chelsea will get back to firing on all cylinders once again.
When we do, the rest of the Premier League will have no other option to sit up and take notice of the wounded animal looking to hit back in the best way possible.
So Chelsea fans take heart from the fact that "somehow" we are still sitting top of the League, look to have turned a corner that started against Birmingham, continued eventually against Zilina and will look to carry on at St James' Park this weekend!
