Carlo Ancelotti welcomes Didier Drogba back to Champions League action tonight against Spartak Moscow and has stated that he hopes Drogba doesn't get himself sent off again. He said:
“The Champions League is decided on little details, and things like injury and suspension are these little details, Control the recovery of the players, avoid injury and avoid yellow cards or red cards. This is very important. To do our best we need to have all our players – and obviously our strikers who can provide our goals.I have to agree with Carlo once again. How many times have we seen Drogba lose his rag in the Champions League. Granted once he had every right to after the ridiculous referring display at home to Barcelona so we can excuse him that, but in Moscow in the Champions League final and the slap on Vidic and then getting sent off last season against Inter Milan he has made errors of judgement that has cost him and Chelsea dearly.
If Didier maintains the level he has reached in the Premier League and keeps scoring goals, that will give us a fantastic chance of reaching the final of this competition.
He’s a big player for us. That sending off [against Inter] was a bad moment. He made a mistake and, obviously, I hope that never happens again. Maybe it was frustration. When you are sure you have lost the game and you are out of the Champions League, it’s normal to have a little bit of frustration. It’s difficult to speak about the past but I’m sure with Essien fit and Drogba we can do better compared to last year in the Champions League. We have more possibilities to win when Drogba is in the team.”
I am sure that is out of his game now, he isn't a malicious character at all and very rarely makes a tackle its the lack of discipline that has let him and us down in important Champions League games.
Carlo is spot on, a fit and firing Didier Drogba gives Chelsea a better chance of glory no matter what competition we are in.
Wouldn't it be nice to see Drogba score the winner at Wembley in this season's final and put to bed all the other issues he has had in the competition before!.
