Is Roman Abramovich about to stun the football world once again as he did back in 2003/4. Has our owner said enough is enough to Manchester City and is about to make moves for BOTH Wayne Rooney and Fernando Torres?. The difference betweeen Roman and City's owners is that he loves his football and is reportedly a massive fan of Rooney and Torres.
Obviously after the Fergie press conference yesterday the press and media have gone into overdrive about Wayne Rooney. I wrote an article yesterday stating why I believe Rooney won't be joining Chelsea and I believe Rooney is now being driven by money and money alone as at the end of the day why leave United.
Added to that there is the situation at Liverpool with Fernando Torres. I wrote another article the other day asking the question if Chelsea would make a move once more for the Spaniard after having a bid turned down in the summer. Torres doesn't look happy anymore at the club and it could be a chance for Chelsea to test Liverpool's resolve.
So we have Rooney who has confirmed he wants to leave and Torres who's body language shows he is looking to leave. Of course Manchester City will be monitoring both players if we are being linked with them as this is pretty much par for the course at the moment but reports this morning state that Rooney is keen on Chelsea.
Could Roman stun the football world once more and splash HUGE amounts of cash in January to try and sign one of them, or could it be both of them?
We have to be realistic here. Didier Drogba is the best all around centre forward in the Premier League. At 33 Drogba has maybe one or two years left in him. I wouldn't swap Drogba for anyone right now and with the way Nico Anelka is playing it would be hard on Anelka if one or both came to the club.
The important thing to remember is the ages of Torres and Rooney. They are only young and have their best years in front of them. Whatever you pay for them if the fee turns out to be massive, you would get a pretty much excellent return on them hopefully over time.
Rooney is english of course, which helps the ruling about home grown players which is another option to consider. Torres is able to play in the Champions League this season which could also be an important factor.
I have to say being honest and realistic if both players are driven by money and look at City as a side who will win things in years to come then I can see them moving to Eastlands. However, we are Chelsea and if its down to football reasons alone then Chelsea ARE a realistic option for one or both whether its in January or in the summer.
The question is has Roman spotted a chance to make a statement to the football world once again and is he about to go after one or both of them? With both players unhappy could Roman's option of Chelsea be too good to refuse as he looks to make his "dream" come true?.

Torres is not driven by money - he just wants to win trophies which is why I think we have a better chance of signing the deadly Spaniard.
ReplyDeletewhat reports this morning say that rooney is keen on joining us?
ReplyDeleteI would choose Rooney over Torres: younger, English and stronger! I am sure Roman would go for 'either or' or may be neither, but i don't want 2 of them. Let's wait and see, but one thing comforting is that Rooney won't be made to walk across the road, red nose might do us some good here!
ReplyDeletei would like to have one and i must say i think im leaning towards rooney. the way i see it is once didier and nico decide their time is up we'd have rooney who can play as that central figure but also, if we hit the jackpot a mange to sign neymar and chelsea fan lukaku we could have neymar left lukaku central and rooney on the right, a front 3 which would devastate any opponent
ReplyDeleteyou couldn,t afford torres, unlike united we don,t need the money no more, as we have no debt
ReplyDeleteJust because Torres looks unhappy does not mean that he wants to join Chelski! Or was it your mama to tell you that?!!!
ReplyDeleteYNWA
If Torres leaves Liverpool he will go back to Spain, and if people judge Torres on his body language then the whole team of Liverpool would be up for sale in January!! Liverpool have gone through some rough times of late but i expect them to come out of the dark soon you have been warned Blackburn!
ReplyDeleteRooney would be a better option expecially with the 4-3-3 being more flexible torres can only really play in the middle so we would have to change formation back to the diamond which could mess things up.
ReplyDeletePlayers do not care that much for trophies anymore it's how much they get paid and how well the club look after the players ect. The only thing that the trophies will be good for is when they have grand children to show what they got for all the millions of pounds they were paid for win or not win bloody trophies!

ReplyDeleteArticle here that he is keen on Chelsea http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-united/8074340/Chelsea-prepare-20m-bid-for-unsettled-Manchester-United-striker-Wayne-Rooney.html
Maybe Rooney will go back to Everton lol or hell he might be bought by Liverpool or star in the next shreak movie :P lol
ReplyDeleteof course player's care bout trophies alot of players are ambitious like gerrard, terry, lampard, giggs, torres. Torres left the club he loved to win trophies unfortuntely that didn't happen.very stereotypical of footballers to say that.
ReplyDeletePeople join Chelsea for "football reasons alone". Don't make me laugh. Just because in the last 18 months or so city have more money doesn't mean that you have acquired your squad from footballers who joined for "football reasons alone". If thats the case why do you need Abramovich at all? Laughable statement by a blinkered Chelsea supporter with a very short memory.
ReplyDeleteCity fan.
