News broke yesterday that John Terry has returned to Chelsea for treatment with a back injury. The statement on the FA's Website said:
"John Terry has returned to Chelsea this evening with a back injury. Terry was assessed by England medical staff on Sunday and will not be fit to play any part in Tuesday's game against Montenegro. No further call-ups will be made at this time.Of course as soon as I heard the news, the alarm bells were ringing in my ears as we already have Alex out with injury for a few weeks, now JT has a back problem. From what I can remember, this is something JT has struggled with for a few seasons now. I may be wrong but I am sure he has missed games last season and maybe even the season before with the same complaint.
The most important thing now is that he is treated at Chelsea and makes the game on Saturday against Villa away. Of course with England's defensive problems, missing JT is a big loss but if we can wrap him up in cotton wool for a few days and make sure he is right for Saturday it will be Chelsea's gain.
Fingers crossed he makes it!

On the other hand if JT has a long-term problem we are stuck for central defenders, making the decision to let Riccy and Mancienne go without signing a replacment look daft. Both Bruma and Ivanovich have struggled with injury this season, so will we end up with Ferriera & Essien in the back 4 a la Anfield a few seasons ago? I know I'm looking on the dark side, but it does seem stupid for a club of our resources to be so short of players in one position.
ReplyDeleteJack, I agree with you about being short in the centre half/back position. Then again Bruma's been asking to play more http://www.chelseadaft.org/2010/10/brumas-having-laugh.html so could be Branna & Bruma against Villa. I really hope JT will be ok to play next to Ivanovic.
ReplyDeleteHe will, little rib injury doesnt slow him. Its just Chelsea who wants to protect him and they dont let him play for england.
