Isn't it funny what a difference a week makes. After being 4-0 up at half time against Blackpool, the second half there, the Newcastle game and then to follow what happened against City, things have taken a dip in our form and performances and I face the game tonight with a tinted outlook.
For me this screams out to me that we are missing Frank Lampard big time. Maybe if he was fit, Yossi Benayoun would of had a run but he is injured. Ramires has been called upon in the last two games, two in the space of 4 days and maybe it's too early for him as he is trying to settle in at the club. So the only positive for me that has come out of this is young Josh McEachran.
I would play Josh tonight now without question. Its obvious the guy is ready and Carlo rates him. So why not give the guy a go!.
No matter what happens and whoever takes to the pitch tonight, we need to win the game. Marseille come into the game after losing at home against Spartak Moscow and with two games we have coming up against them including their plastic pitch, we have to win tonight.
I have said it at different times this season but once more again I would take a 1-0 win right now before a ball is kicked. The thing to remember, this game is no give-me and will not be an easy game. Expect our opponents to be well organised, disciplined and looking to close down all the space we look to attack. If this happens, the game will be crying out for someone in midfield to get hold of the ball and knock it about and for me it has to be McEachran.
Whether or not Carlo decides to play "safe" and start with the same eleven that played City apart from the suspended Didier Drogba (Sturridge maybe) and line up with the three in midfield of Mikel, Essien and Ramires.
One thing I am looking at tonight is our front three. There is no question that we were rubbish on Saturday at City. For once, Malouda was non existant, Anelka tried as usual with no luck and Drogba had a nightmare. So it's important for us to get back to playing with fluidity tonight and we provide plenty of options with our movement up front.
Whether or not Sturridge get's a go from the start or Kakuta plays is yet to be seen. For once, Carlo hasn't named his side yet and that to me is a sign that he doesn't yet know what he wants to do. Let's hope he makes the right decision for all our sakes tonight!.
I am not too bothered about Marseille. I could get carried away looking at their threat tonight but our performances in the last two and a half games mean for me anyway, I am focused on just us and how we play.
Like I have said, right now I don't care who does play as long as we get the win, gain some confidence back in ourselves before the crunch game on Sunday.
So I am going for a Chelsea 1-0 win - Anelka.
