So here are the Chelsea news updates on Friday 3rd September 2010 including: Could Zhirkov leave Chelsea? Essien puts his international career on hold, Lampard believes teams now fear Chelsea and Benayoun scores plenty for Israel.
First to Yuri Zhirkov, it seems that he has been warned by Russia Coach Dick Advocaat that he needs to be playing regular first team football otherwise he will not be selected for Russia. Its believed that sides are already lining up a move for Zhirkov when the transfer window reopens in January.
Spartak Moscow manager Valeri Karpin, who is hoping to beat Zenit St Petersburg to his signature said:
"I was interested, I am now and I will be in the winter,”Could this be something that will happen as being honest I cannot see Zhirkov stepping ahead of Lampard or Malouda in the First Team?. More on this to follow as the transfer window approaches towards the end of the year!.
Next to Michael Essien. Essien, after all his injury problems has asked Ghana National Coach Milovan Rajevac for a break from the side for a while. Rajevac confirmed:
"He contacted me and wanted to ask for permission to be excused for a while,I understood his thoughts and of course I wanted to help him to get into his old form, to start playing regularly and I gave that permission, I'm sure that after sometime he will come back to the national team,".Great news for Chelsea that Essien will get the proper breaks between games to regain full fitness and ease his body back into the rigours of the Premier League. The decision can only be a benefit for Chelsea in the long term.
Now to Frank Lampard and he has given an interview to the Chelsea Magazine and believes that sides now fear Chelsea after our impressive start to the new season. He said:
"I suppose we're on a roll aren't we? Maybe teams are coming to us and feeling a bit intimidated. I remember going to Man United when I was a kid with West Ham — we expected to get beaten by four or five, and we normally did. I went there once, we went 1-0 up and lost 7-1! Let's be honest , I don't think these big results will go on forever but it's great to be able to create that feeling as a team.
I don't know if there are any records out but I can't remember any other team in my lifetime scoring goals like we have, as often as we have. Let's enjoy them and make the most of our chances while they last."
Lampard also believes he is "Very Lucky" to play in our side with great players. In the same Chelsea Magazine article he also said:
"I'm very lucky to play in a team with such good movement, especially when we're really firing, Defenders are worried about [Didier] Drogba and [Nicolas] Anelka, especially when they're running in behind players and pushing the defensive line back, because that opens up space for me to arrive when the ball comes into the box.
The easiest way I ever score goals is when we win the ball and move it quickly forward. What's the point in winning the ball back and just keeping it?
The fans enjoy it, we enjoy it, but it's not reality winning sixes, sevens and eights, There was a time last year when we couldn't score. We've got to be ready for teams who shut up shop against us so that we have to find a way to make a breakthrough. Those are the games where you have to find a goal from nowhere and be happy with a 1-0 win.
Lampard finally spoke of the constant digs at Chelsea about our "ageing" players. He said:
"We have got players here who are experienced and you can't buy experience in football - look at Didier, he is a specimen and he will overpower any 24- or 25-year-old. People have been waxing lyrical about Paul Scholes, and rightly so, because if you take him out of the United team now, they will want to replace him and they probably won't be able to."Good to hear from Frank, after not such a good game for him personally and aiming to get back fit and in the side as soon as possible. Its important to remember as he points out, at this stage a win is a win and we do not expect to be turning sides over week in, week out. We know with the players we have, we have the potential to do that so it is nice to see us scoring plenty of goals and carrying on from where we left off last season.
Finally my favourite player, Yossi Benayon scored a hat-trick for Israel over Malta. Let's hope when he gets his chance he can bring that scoring form into the first team for the remainder of the season.
