The Chelsea Daily Drivel - A bloggers take on the Chelsea news is a daily update of all the stories concerning our club, the rumours, the opinions and more....
So here are the Chelsea news updates on Thursday 30th September 2010 including: Drogba, Essien and Kalou amongst 17 players in the running for African Player of the year!, John Terry wants Anelka at the club for a few years yet!, Bayern Munich to approach Kakuta in January?, Alex talks up Ramires at Chelsea, Jose Bosingwa is back and poses Carlo a good problem to have, Some rumours appear about players we are linked with including the Brazilian Neymar who appears to have gone "off the rails" at his club Santos, Terry believes City can win the title!, Abramovich has told the players that cost cutting is no excuse for failure this season! and Frank Lampard makes an appearance in more ways than one in the return of the "Drivel Giggle".
Firstly this morning to news of The African Player of the year awards. A total of 17 players have been nominated and these nominations include our own Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou and Michael Essien. The other nominee's are, Steven Pienaar, Madjid Bougherra, Samuel Eto'o, Kolo Toure, Gervinho, Mohamed Zidan, Asamoah Gyan, Kwadwo Asamoah, Kevin-Prince Boateng, Frédéric Kanouté, Seydou Keita, Marouane Chamakh, Victor Obinna and Emmanuel Adebayor.
(Source: Goal.com)
CD: Let's be honest here some of those names are there to make up the numbers, Adebayor and Prince-Boateng for example. What did they both do last year (apart from Prince-Boateng doing us a favour and missing a penalty in the FA Cup Final!)?. For me it has to be between Samuel Eto'o and Didier Drogba. Drogs because of his amazing performance last season leading us to the Title and FA Cup and Eto'o for his part in Inter Milan's success last season. If anyone else wins its a travesty!. Let's hope the Drog wins!.
Now to our Captain John Terry. He has spoken of Nico Anelka after the game the other night against Marseille and has made it clear he hopes Anelka will remain at the club for a good few seasons yet. He said:
CD: I have to say I agree with JT 100%. There is no question in my mind that he feels comfortable and at ease with the club and himself here. We had all heard of the ridiculous "Le Sulk" rumours about him before he came to the club, but ever since he has worn a Chelsea shirt he has been impeccable.
He has a presence about him and his play. He is respected by opposition players as they stand off him when he has the ball at his feet. A natural goalscorer and provider he has been one of the best buys for Chelsea in recent times. I'm with JT 100% on this one!.
Added to that the bloke is total class in my view. I was reading an article yesterday after the game in The Guardian about the penalty he took against Marseille and the fact it was at the Shed End in front of the massed Marseille supporters.
An extract from it says:
CD: Couldn't have put it better myself about his performance on the night and in recent games. I really hope he stays!.
Now to a story that has appeared yesterday about Gael Kakuta. It appears that German Radio have been reporting that Bayern Munich are planning a pre-contract approach for the player who is in his final year of his current contract and yet to agree fresh terms on a new deal with Chelsea.
(Source: Goal.com)
CD: I am going to take this one with a pinch of salt as I see no reason in Chelsea investing the money to go through all the press coverage last season about how we signed him to negotiate an "out of court" settlement, invest time coaching the player and giving him serious amounts of playing time this season if they do not intend to keep hold of him. Bayern!, sod off!.
Now to Ramires. He has come under some pressure after a dogey performance against City but Alex has come out and spoke of his mate and believes he will make the grade at Chelsea. Alex said:
CD: I think we all have to remember that the guy has only recently come to the club and to the Premier League from a far inferior league playing in Portugal for Benfica. What hasn't helped is the fact he never had a full pre-season with us, had to play catch up and has been much more heavily invloved in games due to the injury to Frank Lampard (more on him later).
Carlo has an eye for a Brazilian and I am sure Ramires will come good at the club. It will take time but for now all we can hope for is that he gives his best and tries to adapt to the game over here sooner rather than later.
Now to the forgotten man at Chelsea, Jose Bosingwa!. We have had great news this week that Bossie has come through two reserve games in a week with the latest being Monday night's win against the bin dippers(Liverpool) and has suffered no reaction to the knee problems that he has had to face for nearly a year now. Vital Football posted the story the other day that he is available for selection which boosts Carlo's options.
CD: First of all its great news for Bossie and for the club. It must have been so hard to miss out on being a part of our first Title and FA Cup Double in the club's history and in Carlo's first season as manager. We do have to remember that Branna Ivanovic has been sensational in the role in Bossie's absence. It would be hard to win the place back from him.
However, we all know Carlo likes to play with TWO attacking full backs in the side and Bosingwa is better going forward that Ivanovic and Ferreira. The question for me still remains (ever since he joined Chelsea) over his defending. Ivanovic is head and shoulders above him when it comes down to defending as a right back. It's going to be tough for Carlo to decide but a welcome decision to have to make.
Now to some rumours that are knocking about in the last couple of days. Carlo Ancelotti is rumoured to be monitoring Dutch international Jan Vertonghen who is rated at £10m. It is also believed that Barcelona and Arsenal are also in for the player and a possible move could be made as early as January. He plays in the back four and can play in midfield.
(Source: FansFC)
CD: Have to say I have never heard of the bloke so am unable to provide a real opinion of the player. If he plays in the back four I am not too sure where we can really benefit. Just think we have Bosingwa back, Ivanovic and Ferreira who can cover right back. Cole, Zhirkov, Van Aanholt and again Ferreira who can cover left back. Alex, Terry, Bruma and again Ivanovic who can cover centre back. So I don't see any point in this one.
Another story that has re-appeared concerns Chelsea's interest in Brazilian Neymar. Now we all know we made a bid, they rejected it and wanted stupid amounts of money. So as a result Chelsea more or less said no chance this is what we are prepared to pay and he then signed a new deal at Santos.
Well a hell of a lot has been happening in Brazil since then. Back earlier this month the DAILY MAIL had reported that Neymar has been accused of petulant and reckless behaviour that had culminated in a foul-mouthed outburst by the player towards his manager and his captain while he was STILL ON THE PITCH.
His manager (at the time - more on that in a minute) said:
The club even released a statement about the player. Santos said:
Video of his outburst here (what a player by the way and he definatley has a touch of the Williams Gallas' about his temperament!)
He then afterwards after a series of discrepancies apologised for his actions. Neymar himself said:
The thing is about all this is that Neymar was banned for one match after his actions and starting a mass punch up after the game and then had that ban extended to an additional game by his then coach Dorival Junior. The board didn't like it and they SACKED HIM!.
CD: So we are still after the player?. Apparently according to sources around the net and the media, Chelsea still believe a deal can be done for the player?. Just by watching that video you get a real feel for the obvious talent he has and natural ability and for me (as I am blue blooded and biased) is already better than Nani at United. Do we want someone at the club with his temper?. If it means we have to cope with an outburst or two once in a while then I am all for it. It's not like we haven't has to put up with that anytime before is it Didier!?
Now to another player I haven't really heard of and that's CSKA Moscow winger Alan Dzagoev. He had a trial at Chelsea four years ago that wasn't a success (obviously!) and now at the age of 20 has become one of Russia's most exciting prospects. His performances and reputation have once more reportedly "alerted" Chelsea and Carlo could be in for him as early as January as he looks to bolster his options at the club.
(Source: Tribal Football)
CD: Once more the player is an unknown entity for me. However, he is Russian and we all could quite possibly imagine the Chelsea scouts are to "visit" the Russian League on the recommendation of our owner a couple of times per season. After all we have signed Yuri Zhirkov that hasn't really cut it at the club after finding himself second best (without question) to Ashley Cole. So why not let's get ourselves another one!.
Now after the rumour talk, back to some reality and to more Chelsea news now. We head over once more to John Terry and this quote must have been taken from him after a celebratory night out after beating Marseille the other night because he surely had to have been talking while he was drunk.
He said:
CD: Some of you may read that statement and agree with him. I personally don't and I will tell you for why. We had a bad day simple as that. If we had played like we had in the games leading up to that one and we didn't have the injury problems we had (Lampard, Kalou and Benayoun) I have no doubt we would have beaten them.
Also, the difference is the smaller sides in the league. That's one thing JT is right about, they have slipped up in games they should have won and will continue to do so. That's why they won't win the league this season.
More once more from JT and this time he has spoken of the apparent cost-cutting this summer at Stamford Bridge. Terry has reinforced the demands on the players from upstairs despite a massive number of players leaving with only a few coming into the club in the summer. Terry said:
CD: I think if you ask yourselves the question it's a massive ask to expect Chelsea to retain the Premier League & FA Cup and also win the Champions League. That's an extremely difficult reality to face and to step up to the challenge for Carlo and the lads but you have to say we DO have the players to do it.
Of course as always, you need a little bit of luck along the way and with the injuries we have to deal with now, maybe our luck would be dealing with them now and not at the more important stages of the season.
I hope we do win everything we are still in the hunt of challenging for excluding the Carling Cup. I don't know about you guys but I know people say its a "Mickey Mouse cup!" but to win the first one of the season in March at Wembley would give any side a boost as it did in Mourinho's first season.
Let's hope luck is on our side as I think we can all agree, we will need it more than once this season if we are to really challenge!.
Finally in todays packed Chelsea Daily Drivel, it's a return for the "Drivel Giggle". It's not been featured for a while and there was one story this week that caught my attention and I simply couldn't resist.
We add a touch of "Hollywood" to the Giggle today. Zac Efron appeared on ITV's (and Frank's Mrs') Daybreak show and made a statement about Frank on air. He said:
Christine(Frank's Mrs) then said Frank has a t-shirt with Zac's name on it and said:
So I was wondering about the Madge and Kylie scenario that seem's to have developed between the two. I wonder if he wears it to training (as seen here)
Classic!
That's it for now people on this packed Chelsea Daily Drivel. Do you have a view or opinion on anything covered here today. If you do then post your comments below asap as we would love to hear from you.
Stayed tuned for some more posts later today as I want your opinion's on some things that have grabbed my attention enough to warrant their own posts.

Now to our Captain John Terry. He has spoken of Nico Anelka after the game the other night against Marseille and has made it clear he hopes Anelka will remain at the club for a good few seasons yet. He said:
"Nico has stressed before how much he loves the club, The fans love him, the players love him. We would love him to stay here for years to come.(Source: Sporting Life)
He is a great character to have around the place. He is a nice guy and a really good professional, someone who myself and the young players look up to and learn from.
He has found a nice home here at Chelsea. He has come out and said how much he has settled here. We have a good base of French players here as well, so that helps people settle in. People like Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda are key to keeping people happy and so it works well."

Added to that the bloke is total class in my view. I was reading an article yesterday after the game in The Guardian about the penalty he took against Marseille and the fact it was at the Shed End in front of the massed Marseille supporters.
An extract from it says:
At the moment when the referee Frank De Bleeckere penalised Stéphane Mbia for handball and pointed to the penalty spot, the executives at TFI, the French terrestrial television station, must have been beside themselves.(Source:The Guardian)
Here was a moment of pure theatre, the kind that football often throws up but one that always feels so much intense and pleasurable to the men in suits when it is their channel that is screening it live.
Nicolas Anelka has been vilified in France for his central and foul-mouthed part in the national team's meltdown at the World Cup finals. (He is not the only one, of course). And this was the first opportunity for many of his compatriots back at home to see him in action.
The Chelsea striker is also a villain in the eyes of the Marseille fans by dint of his Paris Saint-Germain connections and so when he collected the ball for the penalty, the vociferous travelling supporters began their piercing shrills. The din that they created almost made this feel like a home fixture for their team. Armchair fans across the Channel, meanwhile, were gripped.
Anelka looked characteristically non-plussed. He waited for the fuss on the field to die down and that around him to intensify before ambling forward three paces and rolling the ball, almost in slow motion, past the goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, who was rooted to the spot.
There was the relative rarity of an Anelka smile as he wheeled away to celebrate in the corner of the Shed End populated by Chelsea's supporters. For a split second, it had looked like he would run to the other corner, where the Marseille diehards were stationed, which would not have been a smart move. Anelka has his head screwed on in west London. The 31-year-old could revel in his seventh goal of the season and Chelsea a bold step towards qualification for the Champions League's knockout stage.

He will grow here and I think he has everything to be a very good player and a very stable part of our squad."
CD: I think we all have to remember that the guy has only recently come to the club and to the Premier League from a far inferior league playing in Portugal for Benfica. His manager (at the time - more on that in a minute) said:
"In seven years as a coach, I've never had such a problem with indiscipline. It is a difficult problem, grave, serious and will require effort from us all. At all times we feel that an act of indiscipline, whether from Neymar or a boy from academy, we will punish it. I love him, but there was a new event. We will have to act the same way (as always).'
The club even released a statement about the player. Santos said:
"The club will demand deep changes in his behaviour on and off the field, with his colleagues and opponents and will support the player so this moment of difficulty can be overcome. The directors are finalising details to hire that worker (a psychologist)."(Source: Dailymail)
Video of his outburst here (what a player by the way and he definatley has a touch of the Williams Gallas' about his temperament!)
He then afterwards after a series of discrepancies apologised for his actions. Neymar himself said:
"I'm here to say more than sorry and (I expect) no pardon, I acted wrongly, I left even my father and mother shocked. I'm ashamed of what happened. I say sorry to Dorival, sorry to Edu, who is the team captain, and to my team mates. I apologise to kids who look up to Neymar. Forgive me for what I did."(Source: Daily Mail)
The thing is about all this is that Neymar was banned for one match after his actions and starting a mass punch up after the game and then had that ban extended to an additional game by his then coach Dorival Junior. The board didn't like it and they SACKED HIM!.
Dorival, who took charge at the beginning of this season, had a contract until the end of next year. He was in charge for 61 matches with 37 wins and 16 defeats.(Source: Reuters)
He steered Santos to victory in the Paulista (Sao Paulo) state championship and Copa Brasil in the first half of the season. They are sixth in the Brazilian championship standings.
"The way that City played against us, they are definitely title contenders, They have certainly got the players to do so and any big side going there is going to find it difficult because they always raise their game. It's against the smaller sides that they have found it difficult.(Source: The Guardian)
Saturday's defeat was one of those things for us. I've seen quite a bit of City and they have not looked great, if I'm honest. But they were excellent against us, it was their best game of the season. They are going to get encouragement from that, from beating the in-form side in the league."
CD: Some of you may read that statement and agree with him. I personally don't and I will tell you for why. We had a bad day simple as that.
