The Chelsea Daily Drivel is a daily update of all the stories concerning our club, the rumours, the opinions and more....
So here is the latest from around the web on Thursday 5th August 2010 including: Chelsea's pre-season woe's continue. Zhirkov the subject of a bid from Russia? Ryan Bertrand joins Forest on loan and reported Chelsea target Kaka out for two months.
First our latest defeat in Pre Season this time at the hands of Hamburg yesterday. Chelsea took to the field with a strong side as stated by Carlo Ancelotti before the game with one eye on Wembley against United on Sunday. The only players of note missing were Alex, Petr Cech and Didier Drogba with Drogba being named on the bench only a week after his operation to cure his hernia problem.
No matter what the press are saying this morning, its a run out for the players at the end of the day as Carlo looks to build our fitness ahead of the season starting on the 14th. What disappointing for me is that its another loss. Ok, we know the players at the World Cup have only been back in training for 10 days or so but we shouldn't be losing to these sides. They are ahead of us in their preparation but for 60 minutes we looked ok.
We had taken the lead through a dodgy back pass from Hamburg which Essien pounced on and squared the ball to Lampard to slot home to make it 1-0 and two goals in two games for Super Frank. However, its the way we seem to be letting goals in which worries me at the moment. Hamburg got back even when a silly back pass from Zhirkov which was short allowed their frontman in and he beat Turnbull to the ball to flick it over him. It's my view that Turnbull bottled it when he came out to challenge (see the replay again) and could have done better.
Their final goal was a mistake by JT as he tried to intercept a pass and played the ball right into the path of their forward, he took a touch and brought the ball inside and placed his shot under Turnbull.
Carlo spoke shortly after the game and spoke of a lack of fitness at the moment which affects our performances in recent games. He said
Let's bloody hope so Carlo because if we don't then you will see the press go to town about Chelsea and our hopes for the season come Monday!.
Now to Yuri Zhirkov and a possible bid for his services to take him back to Russia by Zenit St Petersberg. Vital Chelsea have posted their article this morning reporting that apparently a £21m bid has been made for the player we bought a year ago for around £18m last term.
I have to say at the moment I can't really say what Chelsea would do on this one. Obviously he provides cover down the left hand side at left back and also on the wing and let's not forget Carlo has sometimes used him playing inside in midfield. You have to say though at the moment Patrick Van Aanholt is doing more than enough to be pushing Zhirkov to get ahead of him in the pecking order so we have to wait and see Chelsea stance on the bid that has reportedly been tabled to the club. More to follow on this one.
Now to a player who has left the club, on loan for six months and thats Ryan Bertrand. Bertrand has signed for Nottingham Forest until Jan 3rd 2011. There seem's to be a familiar story coming from Chelsea at the moment with alot of the more established and familiar youngsters not being able to get their chance to be in and around the first team and Bertrand is another one. Ryan spent the majority of last season out on loan notably at Reading making 51 appearances but has also been sent out on loan at Bournemouth, Oldham and Norwich in the past. We wish him well for his stay with Forest.
Finally today to Kaka. As regular readers of my blog will know we have been linked with Kaka for the second summer running after it has been reported that Kaka does not feature in the plans of Jose Mourinho for Real Madrid this season. Speculation has been rife that we could be in for him so he links up once more with Carlo Ancelotti. However, the Daily Mail is reporting today that Kaka faces two months on the sidelines after being forced out of training and sent to Belguim for an operation on his knee which is apparently a blow to Carlo as he looks to bring in one more player to our squad.

We are making a lot of mistakes in this moment, We know we made a mistake, now we have to show more character and more concentration. Usually this team is more focused but these are friendly games. For this reason we are losing some concentration. It is a moment that we are making mistakes but in the past this defence has a lot of confidence, so we will come back in the next games and keep our concentration.(Source Chelseafc.com)
Physically it was not so bad. There are some players in good condition, there are some players who need more time to be fit. After eight days of training it is impossible to be fit. The players who came back on 26 July need another two weeks to work. Obviously they can still play in this moment. Even if they are not fit they still have a good presence on the pitch, so it is not so important to be 100 per cent fit at the start of the season. They need more time playing and they will do better.
But I am disappointed because it is not good to lose three games consecutively. This is not a good start for us but we hope the next game against Manchester United we will come back to win.'

Wasn't really that worrying yesterday was it? We showed that we had a solid team at the start, and it wasn't until the changes started ringing in that we looked to lose our way, mostly down to the lack of formation caused by Yuri. He was directly as fault for the first goal and out of position for the 2nd. JT moved across to far to cover the gap and it left the center of our defence wide open. He might be a good LW but he certainly ain't a left back!
ReplyDeleteSunday will be the true test to see if we're ready for the season. If we win everything is good. Lose closely and we're OK. If we get a hammering I'll start to worry!
I would never forget Zhirkov's heroics on 13 April 2010 against Bolton! But yes his back pass was horrible, but not as much as the sitter missed by rooney!
