The Chelsea Daily Drivel is a daily update of all the stories concerning our club, the rumours, the opinions and more....
So here is the latest from around the web on Monday 5th July 2010 including: Fernando Torres' agent speaks out, Chelsea looking at Raul Meireles and Petr Cech speaks about Yossi Benayoun.
First and to more on the speculation about Fernando Torres who hasn't exactly had the greatest World Cup so far with Spain. The players agent has spoken about his players future and has indicated that his future may not lie with current club Liverpool. He said:
Now to news that Chelsea are looking at Porto Midfielder Raul Meireles. Its reported that Porto are looking to bring Joao Moutinho to their club and Meireles could be sold to accomodate him. It just so happens that the player has the same agent as Hilario, Deco, Ferreira and Ricardo Carvalho which should help negotiations if Chelsea will part with the 15m Euros Porto are looking to recoup for the player.
I like Meireles. I have seen him play for Porto and he is definatley a player who can pick and pass but also get stuck in at the same time. Again, we have to be aware this could be just a ploy from the players agent to attract interest to negotiate a better deal for his man so let's see what happens.
Now to Petr Cech. Cech after spening a relaxing summer away from football is back in Pre Season training starting today and ahead of pre season he has spoken about the signing of Yossi Benayoun. He also makes a very interesting point. First of the signing he said:
Now I recently wrote an article about Benayoun stating that I don't think he is good enough for Chelsea which sparked numerous comments. Check it out here.
Cech added his opinion of Chelsea's transfer signings and back's up my point I am happy to say. He said:
This is exactly the point I am trying to make. I feel that Benayoun creates a gap in quality and thats all I have been trying to say.
More tomorrow including a report on the squad's first day of pre-season training.
CAREFREE & KTBFFH EVERYONE!

First and to more on the speculation about Fernando Torres who hasn't exactly had the greatest World Cup so far with Spain. The players agent has spoken about his players future and has indicated that his future may not lie with current club Liverpool. He said:
‘It is very likely that Fernando Torres will stay in the Premier League, but I cannot say that it will be with Liverpool. We are working on his future but right now you cannot guarantee that he will stay with the English club. Barcelona are ruled out. Barcelona have signed David Villa and now they want to invest the money they have in other players.’Again as before, this one will continue until after the World Cup when Torres will have a chance to speak with new Liverpool Manager Roy Hodgson. It will be after then that we will have more of an idea of the players intentions.
Now to news that Chelsea are looking at Porto Midfielder Raul Meireles. Its reported that Porto are looking to bring Joao Moutinho to their club and Meireles could be sold to accomodate him. "I think he is a very intelligent player, very technical, different from other types of players we have in the squad, For me he is a very good player so I think he will be very welcome."
Now I recently wrote an article about Benayoun stating that I don't think he is good enough for Chelsea which sparked numerous comments. Check it out here.
Cech added his opinion of Chelsea's transfer signings and back's up my point I am happy to say. He said:
"As a player I only hope that if somebody leaves, he will be replaced with a player at least with the same quality or better. I think this is important for the group then you know that if someone leaves, their departure will not create any gap between the quality of the last season and the new season."
This is exactly the point I am trying to make. I feel that Benayoun creates a gap in quality and thats all I have been trying to say.

I'm sorry, but it is very weird that you seem to have a problem with Benayoun, but then you would welcome Meireles. (Correct me, if you "liking" a player doesn't mean you would want to sign him)
ReplyDeleteTo me Benayoun is the higher quality player, plus he came for a third of the price.
As for the rumour itsself; Completely nuts, since Porto got Moutinho for eleven million.
Why would Chelsea move for an inferior player for more money?
Was Joe Cole even impressing? Did he do anything good? Last season, he was a piece of poo! All he did was get 1 goal in a 4-0 win...which wasn't important. Joe's magical times are over. He was just a fan favorite because he has the ability to do some magic once a season. But anyways...Benayoun can at least perform and score and if he wants to play then he will. I hope he doesn't wear the number 10 because Kaka is going to wear that. Number 9's Aguero's and number 7's Patos! Up Chelsea!!!
