So here we go again with the Joe Cole saga. Have talks have already happened between Joe Cole's advisors, Arsenal and also Manchester United?. There are reports that they have but both clubs have a stumbling block over a possible move.
Its reported that Joe Cole's preferred destination is Manchester United. As I reported on here this afternoon in my Daily Drivel, Marcel Desailly suggested that a move to United would benefit Cole so he could take his career forward. It seems that this could be the way Joe see's it and would favour the move. However, it seems that United and Alex Ferguson have a stumbling block over the reported duration of the contract. On a free transfer, Joe wants a 4-year deal. At 28 this would take him through arguably the peak of his career but if reports are to be believed, United would only offer him a shorter deal.
Now as far as Arsenal are concerned the stumbling block is the wages Joe is looking for. I reported on here last week that he was looking for 110k per week but there are new reports coming out of The Emirates that Arsenal wouldn't entertain that amount of money. New reports state that Wenger would look to offer Joe Cole 80k per week with performance and appearance related bonuses attached to the contract. This is due to a concern that Wenger has over Cole's long term fitness.
The news today is that Cole will sort out his future once he returns from the World Cup. With reports that Chelsea withdrew their contract offer for Joe as he had made it clear he would be leaving it seems that its between these two for his signature.
I still hope that Joe can see at some stage that his future lies with Chelsea. I know it seems that hopes of keeping Joe are fading day by day but the Manager and Ray Wilkins have come out and said that they want him to stay so someone needs to give the board a shove to sort this out.
Just remember though Chelsea fans, as per my article yesterday, We have Malouda and could Malouda's form be one of the reason's Joe Cole could leave us this summer?

Mate, i apologise for this cunt. Not all Arsenal fans are like this.We pride ourselves on the class we show.
ReplyDelete@Anon, I had to delete it as you can understand.
ReplyDeleteI thought Joe wouldn't fancy a move up north? (nor would anyone sane).
ReplyDeleteIf you had to leave Chelsea and United came knocking then you have to consider it because you know you will be knocking on the door to win trophies season in season out. That's not a dig at the Arse at all. As a player I can imagine you would choose United ahead of Arsenal for that simple reason.
ReplyDeleteFor that reason sure but I've heard he didn't want to leave London.
ReplyDeleteI had heard the same. Its all to do with his new born and other half wants to stay down here... but that could just be rumour and nothing more.
ReplyDeleteI just feel he is exactly what United need at the moment. A clever, inventive, attack-minded, versatile player who win fit in nicely alongside Fletcher and 1 of Anderson/Hargreaves/Carrick in a 3 man midfield that United now seem to prefer. He would be a quality signing and, lets face it, the fee involved (zero) is about what United can afford at the moment!
ReplyDeleteHave to remember he has a young family aswell and the factor of if he wants to up sticks up north with them will play a large part in this too.
ReplyDeleteArsenal will win more in coming seasons. United are going down and Arsenal on there way up.
ReplyDeleteOk I've heard 4 things from the supposed "inside"...
ReplyDelete1.Cole has agreed with Redknapp to come to Spurs but Levy is digging his heels over wages citing injuries. Since this so called agreement Harry has done two things to help force Levy's hand... 1. Say Cole has agreed terms elsewhere in the hope Levy will match it. 2. Has linked himself with Liverpool (via agent and old pal Kenny D) in a bid for a decent contract himself and some sort of agreement from Levy on the wage ceiling at Spurs.
2. Joe Cole wants to go Man Utd and Fergie wants him... no noise from Utd board.
3. Man City have confirmed with Cole they will pay more than anyone else for his services.
4. Cole does not want to sign for Arsenal but Cole's agent is using their "mild" interest (eg Wenger hasn't said no to the agent) in a bid to get a good deal elsewhere.
Verdict:
Cole won't sign for no one till after the World Cup in the hope he will go up in stock and can demand what he wants. I've heard he does not want to go Arsenal.
