The Chelsea Daily Drivel is a daily update of all the stories concerning our club, the rumours, the opinions and more....
So here is the latest from around the web on Wednesday 16th June 2010 including: More on James Milner, Fernando Torres, Yossi Benayoun, Sergio Ramos, Deco, Rhys Taylor and Didier Drogba.
First to the continued speculation regarding Chelsea's interest in Aston Villa's James Milner. Milner (who had a shocker for England in the first half against the USA and was substituted after 30 mins) has been the focus of media speculation in recent times and CaughtOffside is reporting that Carlo Ancelotti is stepping up his interest in the talented midfielder.
Its reported that Milner would jump at the chance to join Chelsea as the club looks to bring in more homegrown players in order to meet new regulations next season. A bid in the region of 28m looks on the cards.
My take on this:
Next to Liverpool and the speculation regarding Fernando Torres and Yossi Benayoun. The Mirror is reporting that Liverpool will wait until a new manager has been appointed at the club before any deals are to be agreed. It looks more and more likely the new man at the helm will be Roy Hodgson and he could be in the hot seat within days. Liverpool have said that there has been no formal approaches for any player as yet and they will not entertain any offers until the manager has time to access the playing squad.
My Take on this one:
Another story that is in the media today and isn't the first time it has appeared this summer is regarding the future of Sergio Ramos. IM Scouting are reporting that Ramos has refused to rule out a move to Chelsea as he has yet to sign a new contract extension at Real. At the moment Ramos is on 2.5m Euros per season at Real and the rumour reported in the article states that Chelsea would be prepared to offer 70m Euros transfer fee and a five year contract worth 10m Euros per season!. Ramos is preparing to make his World Cup Debut today for Spain.
My Take on this one:
Next to Deco. Deco played for Portugal alongside Carvalho and Ferreira as they fought out a 0-0 draw with the Ivory Coast yesterday in South Africa. Deco was substituted and didn't look happy about it after 62 minutes. Im Scouting are reporting that Deco has spoken out about Carlos Queiroz after the game. Deco said:
Now to news that Chelsea Goalkeeper Rhys Taylor will join Crewe Alexandra for pre-season training with a view to joining the club on loan next season. BBC Football reports that Steve Holland who works with the Chelsea Reserve side and used to work as first team coach at Crewe, has recommended him to Crewe. Crewe boss Dario Gradi confirmed the move and said:
Finally to Didier Drogba. Drogba was given the all clear to play in the World Cup and was expected to start alongside Kalou for the Ivory Coast against Portugal yesterday but he started as a substitute and came on for the last 25 minutes or so. He has since revealed it was a joint decision to start from the bench for the game. He said:

My take on this:
"I know he played crap at the weekend against the USA but I think that was purely down to nerves. I really rate Milner and at the age he is, would be one that would come to the club with an already excellent repuation and would look to improve year on year and this would be great for Chelsea. Let's hope this one isn't just speculation and Chelsea make a formal offer in the coming days/weeks"
I really really hope that the Benayoun deal is just his agent speculating about his player to either get a pay rise or a new deal. This isn't the kind of player we need to bring to the club as I have said before. I simply for the life of me can't understand how you can let Joe Cole leave and replace him with Benayoun.
Another story that is in the media today and isn't the first time it has appeared this summer is regarding the future of Sergio Ramos. IM Scouting are reporting that Ramos has refused to rule out a move to Chelsea as he has yet to sign a new contract extension at Real. Ramos is preparing to make his World Cup Debut today for Spain.
My Take on this one:
Rubbish if you ask me!. First of all the fee involved is ridiculous and the player wages are a joke. This one to me seems as though the players agent is looking for a better deal from Real and he will more than likely get that, and stay at Madrid.
Deco said:
"He asked me to play on the right wing, which I have never done in my career. His approach to the game after the interval (long ball)was not correct. The mistake was wanting to win within 45 minutes. That made us anxious and we could even have lost."
"The idea is that he comes up and we look at each other, He's just signed a new contract at Chelsea. They have high hopes for him."
He said:
"It was everybody's decision, but yes, my decision to play and say to the manager that if he needed me, I was going to be there, I could be ready. We have five days to prepare for this game, so I am there."
