On paper Chelsea's short trip to Wembley tomorrow looking to win the double and retain the FA Cup looks a dead cert. Battling Portsmouth will make sure we don't have it our own way.
The world will be watching and will more than likely expect a Chelsea win as we come into the game on the back of Premiership glory last Sunday. For Portsmouth they come into the game in a situation that couldn't be any more different for a whole host of reasons.
Chelsea did have a scare in the week with John Terry having a knock in training, but luckily enough he has the all clear and Carlo Ancelotti confirmed he is 100% and he will play. The only doubt we have for the game is Branna Ivanovic and depending on how his knee recovers, and if in time for Saturday the side should be unchanged for the third game running.
Last Sundays demolition of Wigan has shown the world we are playing with confidence, are on form and scoring for fun. The players are confident and enjoying their football and tomorrow could be the same again if we get our way early in the game.
With Ballack in the holding role and popping his passes about, Lampard and Malouda should be able to get on the ball and dictate the play. If that happens early in the game then Pompey are in for a long afternoon!.
There is no question that Chelsea play with alot more freedom under the management of Carlo Ancelotti and with scoring 7 goals in three Premiership games and eight last week it wouldn't be a surprise if there are plenty of goals tomorrow, and thats no disrespect on Portsmouth at all.
The simple fact is, if Chelsea get their way early in the game and dictate the play then I am sorry but I can only see a Chelsea win.
If Chelsea do not get their way early then we can expect a difficult afternoon. Just remember Chelsea fans, Spurs were favourites to win the semi-final and look what happened!. Avram Grant's Portsmouth have nothing to lose coming into the game. Have players who can win the game for them, for some players a chance to put themselves in the shop window and will want to show the world that they maybe down but not out!.
The Portsmouth story leaves me a Chelsea fan, full of sympathy for their fans. Jose Mourinho and other managers have spoken of the atmosphere they create at Fratton Park, their support for their club and to see it dragged through the mire in recent times is really hard on them. The 70-page report shows the extent of the problems we all know they have now.
Despite their problems, Avram Grant has got the players to their second FA Cup final in three seasons and considering the difficulties they have faced its an amazing achievement. They know they are facing Championship football, mounting debts, a player exodus forced upon them in the summer but like I said before, with the world watching, they will want to give their fans something to shout about tomorrow.
The thing is football is football and with the double for Chelsea just one game away, sentiments will be put to one side as we go all out for the win.
I know some people may disagree with me and maybe I am a soppy sod but I would love to win this 3-1 tomorrow. Chelsea to be three up and cruising and for Pompey to score at the end of the game to give their fans reason to cheer before their nightmare season comes to a close.
Lets hope Chelsea do the double and we all celebrate all weekend. Let's hope its a fantastic occasion tomorrow and a real show of football that the Premier League offers the world week in week out.
Finally, I hope that someone out there can come in and sort the mess out at Portsmouth sooner rather than later. At the end of the day, their fans don't deserve what they have to face next season so let's hope the situation is resolved quickly and they can take their place back in Premier League. So for next season and not tomorrow "Play up Pompey!"
For tomorrow though COME ON THE BLUE BOYS and let's make history!
CAREFREE & KTBFFH (and those Pompey chimes!)
