With my recent post with quotes from both camps before the game tomorrow it seems to me that Rafa (can I take your order) Benitez's body language and quotes signal the time has come for him to leave Liverpool.
Let's face it, their season has been a complete disaster. We all have to admit it whether we like it or not, after finishing 2nd in the Premier League last season we all expected Liverpool to make much more of a challenge for the title and thats just me being honest but something went wrong.
For me the biggest mistake he made was getting rid of Alonso. You cannot replace someone who's has obvious class and replace his passing ability. When he left, Gerrard has taken on a whole new role and the side are relying on Lucas to replace Alonso and this is never going to happen.
So after missing out on the Champions League knockout stages, then being knocked out of the Europa and being where they are in the League its no surprise the subject of his future is being reported and written about all the time in recent weeks. He attitude and demenour looked defeated yesterday and the quotes coming out of his mouth were not good for the fans and the players listening.
BUT, us Chelsea fans and I mean the true fans and not the glory hunters who have appeared in the last 5 years know that going to Liverpool is never an easy game for us and our recent Champions League history between the sides has shown exactly that. For me I have missed the Chels v Liverpool confrontations that always seem to come out the draw for the knockout stages this season.
There is no question if Chels go there tomorrow and win then its a double-edged sword as far as Liverpool are concerned. It will have a serious effect on their aspirations on 4th place this season and could find themselves only 2 points ahead of arch rivals Everton in seventh place with the last game of the season remaining. Secondly, it could see Benitez turn his back on the club and the supporters who love and idolise him.
Then again, his decision could already be made. Its reported in the Italian press the deal is agreed and waiting to be signed.
For 90 minutes though tomorrow he will be there (hope he remembers to take his pinney off) gesturing to his players to try and get a result against the Chels.
This is no gimme for Chelsea tomorrow. Forget all the crap Sir Alex is coming out with about history and everything else. Liverpool fans and players alike have their pride and will do everything they can to get the job done tomorrow and it will be no surprise to me if its a tight game.
For now, Liverpool are knackered. Their "tanks empty" after Thursday night and with Chelsea coming to town after a full weeks rest its going to be massive for everyone concerned.
I have to be honest here, if Chelsea win tomorrow and I am confident we will then it could be the final push Benitez needs to get on that plane to Turin.
Shame that!
CAREFREE & KTBFFH
I think Rafa should play the kids tomorrow, the one thin that no scouser wants is united to win the league.
ReplyDeleteRafa has been a disaster with his signings and yet he refuses to accept that....it is almost comical really.
