Marcel Desailly has launched somewhat of an attack on his old side before the game at Old Trafford this weekend.
Desailly was speaking ahead of the game this Saturday and hasn't been impressed with Chelsea this season. He said:
"It looks like the midfield have not really delivered protection to the defence. The defensive block have had some problems this year. That is why they are not four, five or six points ahead because they have lost many points on free-kicks and just generally losing their concentration. Previously the midfield was absolutely amazing.
Even if they weren't winning the Premier League, it was holding the team. The midfield was really playing well. Now Joe Cole is not expressing himself as he wanted, Ballack has disappeared the last two months, Mikel is playing his best but the team misses Essien. So this is why the defence is suffering.
First they need to get rid of four or five guys who are not Chelsea players, I think five players have to leave the club. After that it depends on the finances. People are talking about Ribéry but Ribéry is a problem because they have Malouda on the left. I'm not sure if they will spend again.
When you look at the two teams, United have a small advantage on the consistency they are showing in the midfield. Absolutely amazing. Players like Fletcher, Nani coming back at a high level and Valencia have made a contribution. Let's not even talk about Giggs. Right the way back to Van der Sar, it's a real team, a group. That's why I believe that Manchester United today have more energy than Chelsea."
I have to say I am surprised at the timing of his outburst. We all know what he has said is true to a point this season in the chances we have let slip away to extend our lead at the top of the Premier League. To say though, that United have more energy than Chelsea is a surprise as United looked tired last night.
With such a big game on the horizon his timing is questionable, but could spur the players on to out perform United. With Rooney confirmed out of the Chelsea game, Desailly could be eating his words on Saturday!

Dessaily doesn't know what he's talking about. Granted the team needs some tweaking but we have met Man U with the same midfield twice and both times overwhelmed them in the middle and won both games.
