Could it be the headline we all will see in the coming days. There are reports and rumours that Aguero's representatives are in London to meet Chelsea officials in order to seal a deal for the player in a rumoured bid of 37.5m Euros.
Atletico Madrid lost again this weekend in their worse start to a season and this could signal the end of his time with the giants from Madrid.
So could it be that Chelsea have got their man? Could it be that one of the highest rated strikers outside of the Premier League be heading to Stamford Bridge? If so will he deserve the right to get the start in the side?
At the moment Anelka and Drogba are forming a potent partnership in the Premier League. Ok ok, there is always room for improvement but they are already one of most feared partnerships that centre backs face. If Aguero comes into the club looking for a start will it mean the end of Anelka?. I have to say, I prefer what we have at the moment and that's only because Anelka has found his feet last season and finished top scorer and won the golden boot. Didier Drogba is on fire already this season and is scoring for fun so why make the change?
Again, the African Nations in January could be a reason, Aguero's undoubted talent and ability is another but surely if we pay the money that has been reported for Aguero will he command the regular place next to Drogba?. As I have just posted about Ribery, he is another player with no Premier League experience and I can assure you he will struggle to cope with Premier League defenders to start with, so is he worth the gamble?
Once more, I say at this stage stick to what we have so we don't disrupt the fluidity of our squad and the way we are playing. I know we have the situation with the ban and possibly missing out this summer but do we really want to rattle the cage and rotate the forward line between Anelka and Aguero for the remainder of this season as Drogba (at the moment) commands his start week in week out.

Aguero could play in Drogba's position in January and once the African Cup is over he could come as a substitute for either Anelka or Didier .Drogba is magnificent this year and Anelka's performance so far has been top notch ,giving the position away immediately to Aguero would be unwise, let him get blend in and then give him a position in the starting XI.I wouldn't mind Rodwell as well in the team but I guess that would be greedy.Imho Ribery isn't worth nor the money nor the trouble, and I wouldn't call 26 exactly young.
ReplyDeleteSeems like Ancelotti likes his rotation... Aguero would be ineligible for the Champs League, but could give Anelka and Drogba a break when the fixture list gets really thick later in the year - and don't forget, we may not be able to sign anyone for a year or so after this transfer window.
ReplyDeleteGood point Anon, thats the thing the situation with the ban and whether it stands. If it does we are stuck, but will Anelka and Aguero be happy rotating?

ReplyDeleteWith Ribery being 26 he is coming into his prime which is why I said he is still young. Compared to Lamps/Ballack etc
aguero is a brilliant replacement aswell in terms of quality.. drogba and anelka are getting a bit old (though i do not doubt either of there quality) and we should be looking to add some younger faces... aguero will also add a bit more flair to the team i believe..
ReplyDeleteAguero can play the creative midfielder role. Just from scanning through youtube of his highlights....nearly all of them are of him picking the ball up in midfield, doing something creative and then either shooting or more often passing it along with a brilliant pass. Seems more like the Deco type of player.
ReplyDeleteIn my book a player like that is just what Chelsea has needed since Eiður left.
