Its been reported in one the British Newspapers today that Peter Kenyon thinks that with the current squad we have along with our new signings that we can with everything this season. He said:
"I think there's been alot of emphasis around football on transfers, but we've got the players we wanted. We've been quiet!. When I look at Didier Drogba, John Terry and Ashley Cole, they would walk into any other team in Europe. Carlo's made a big impact already, he's an experienced coach, he's done it as a player, done it as a coach. I think we can win everything. The reality of that is there is an added edge. I was with John Terry at the Champions League draw, walking past the trophy - he wants to lift it. That's the desire we've got at Chelsea"
So is he right and jumping on the band wagon that surrounds us at the minute because of our good start to the season or are we to be wary after what happened at the start of last season. For some reason I just have a much better feeling about this season and about our current squad than I did last year. The players are together, fighting for each other, working hard and looking fitter so you have to say I can see no reason why we can't go close again.
But, we do have that nagging doubt about the teams we have totally outplayed this season and won 4 out of 4. They are not really the strongest teams we will come up against in the league and thats no disrespect to any of them. The sterner test will come in the coming months with some big games ahead. The League Cup maybe a different story depending on Carlo's mentality on how he wants to approach the competition.
For all foreign players / managers that come to our shores are aware of the importance of the FA Cup and I see us playing strong teams in the competition throughout and the same with the Champions League. So in answer to Kenyon's claim about this season, on paper you would have to say we have a great chance, but you have to admit that others do too and will stand in our way in more than one competition this season.
Its a little bit early to be getting carried away you have to say. But let's keep the faith and you never know in football. As someone said once, "Its a funny old game!".
