I am sure alot of you like me, have woken up this morning and wondered "Why did Glen Johnson choose Liverpool over Chelsea?".
Once we heard the news that Portsmouth had accepted a bid from Chelsea that matched the bid that Liverpool had made all of us probably thought that he would be coming back. Then the news broke last night that they had agreed a deal with Portsmouth and Johnson himself to sign for them.
So this leads me on to question why Johnson being an ex-player who has more than established himself as a regular starter at Portsmouth and England in recent times, with the speculation that we are about to let Bosingwa go, turn his back on us?
We have all seen the report about what happened to Johnson at Chelsea. He was Roman's first signing at £6m and was the starting right back at the club. Then Jose came in and brought in Ferreira. Johnson then became a bit part player. Playing a couple of games and then dropped for the next. He even has gone on record to say that at one stage he hadn't played for Chelsea for five games then all of a sudden he was starting for England.
It's a simple answer to the question for me. Regular first team football with the World Cup coming up next summer. Johnson surely feels as though he will be the main right back there and will play week in week out and that's more than likely why he has signed.
To me, its a shame as I could see Bosingwa leaving and Johnson making the position his own.
