So Kaka's move to Madrid has been completed as he has signed a 6 year deal for an estimated 56 million transfer fee. The question is: "Did we miss out on him as well as Robinho or were we used to barter with Madrid?"
Its obvious the guy has immense talent, of that there is no doubt but just how strong was our reported interest? Like the rest of you I saw the daily reports and rumours and posted on here numerous times about him coming to Chelsea. The interest at one stage was fever pitch as I recall spending one particular night on the "cfcnet" forum's waiting for news and watching Chelsea TV and Skysports for any kind of update I could get my hands on.
But we all know now, and even as Kaka has said that the deal was done a long time ago. So to me I feel as though Milan used us to barter with Madrid. Our name was mentioned as being interested because of the Ancelotti factor, then we hear about there was a delay due to commission payments to his agents by Madrid etc etc.
There is little doubt that Roman's intentions to sort out the situation at Chelsea half way through last season have been noted across the football community. Chelsea have come out and said that the money is there for signings so you can imagine that Chairmen across the globe are rubbing their hands at the prospect of Roman splashing the cash once again.
The impression is that we were used. But after all I don't see it as any great loss for the time being as we have the main man on form who has proved to be the most consistent midfielder in the Premier League and that's Frank Lampard. So you can keep your Kaka. We are just fine thank you!
