So with the news (officially unconfirmed) by Chelsea that we have matched Liverpool's bid for Glen Johnson believed to be in the region of £17.5m I am wondering is this a good signing for Chelsea?
If you remember he was Roman Abramovich's first signing when we paid West Ham £6m for him as Claudio Ranieri brought him to Stamford Bridge along with the likes of Joe Cole, Hernan Crespo, Juan Veron (remember him!) & Wayne Bridge.
You have to say that Johnson began to flourish in a Chelsea shirt and seemed to be getting better and better but had his chances stifled with the arrival of Paulo Ferriera under Jose Mourinho and Johnson became a bit-part player. He was eventually loaned to Portsmouth and then sold for £4m a couple of season's ago.
With the other news that has been confirmed by Bayern Munich about Jose Bosingwa I believe this to be a great signing for Chelsea if he chooses us over Liverpool.

In the time he has been away from Chelsea, Johnson has taken his chance of regular first team football and has forced his way into the England set up and has taken the fight to the likes of Gary (10 games a season) Neville and Micah (I don't know what my best position is) Richards.
The other week against Andorra he showed the progress he has made at Portsmouth because of regular football and was outstanding. Ok, I know Andorra aren't exactly the worlds' best side )no disrespect to them) but he was still excellent.
If he chooses to come to Chelsea then its imperative that he is given the starting berth ahead of forgotten man Paulo Ferriera. Bosingwa, is going I believe and it will be between those two for the regular start. Johnson has shown in recent seasons that he is still as good as ever going forward but most importantly of all, is improving defensively and with time on his side will be a great asset for Chelsea.
if it's true it'd be a decent acquisition - but only if Bosingwa goes. as much as i like Bosingwa, his performances did dip in the 2nd half of the season, and he seems to lack concentration sometimes.
