Match Day - Liverpool

Woke up this morning feeling confident about the game this evening. I really think we have a great chance for a good result tonight as per the post below this one. News this morning that Jose Bosingwa is out of the game isn't really a bad thing for tonight in my opinion. I think Ivanovic will play and he is a much more solid defender which away in the 1st leg we will need.

Watching the press conference of Guus Hiddkink and John Terry has only emphasised to me that there is a great belief in themselves and what they can achieve at Anfield tonight. Whats important for me is that Guus Hiddink said and i quote:

'We come here not to sit back and wait and react. It is not the way to play football in my philosophy, nor the team's concept of how to play football. Whenever we can we try to take the initiative. If you can score an away goal that is always a big blow for the home team. If they have conceded, it is always very difficult to recover that.'

That to me is key. Teams go to Anfield and defend their goal and more often than not end up conceding. We may have been guilty at time of playing like that under Jose but tonight we won't be. Hiddink believes if we stick to our tactical principles in the game then it will be down to the side that makes a mistake tonight. I think with Mascherano out and Lucas in, this could be where it happens. He is the weak link of the midfield and we need to exploit it.

What is also encouraging for me is John Terry yesterday. He mentioned the previous league game this season where we defended for 89 mins and got beat by two late goals he acknowledged the defeat and the way we played then but made it clear to everyone including Liverpool this IS a different Chelsea now. He said:

"We are a lot stronger since the new manager has come in,' Terry says. 'We have regrouped and gone again and that is why we are pushing the way we are in the league. We are in as good a form as anybody. We didn't play too well in this season's league game at Anfield. We kept them at bay for 89 minutes and then they scored two late goals"

"We are a lot stronger now and collectively we are good enough to go on and do great things. We have scored in every game but one since the manager came, that was the Tottenham game. We have always posed a threat in front of goal and defensively Liverpool have to deal with us. If we can keep them at bay our end, we are going to be a big threat."

No doubt about it tonight is a massive game for both of us. I am 100% certain we will score there tonight. Let's hope it gives us a fantastic advantage for the Bridge next Tuesday.
