Juventus 2-2 Chelsea (Chelsea through on agg 3-2)
Well what a great result for the Blue Boys. If i am honest i was a little bit nervous before the game despite the recent upturn in our fortunes lately. I was surprised by the team selection and starting with Essien but to his credit the decision paid off.
Gus obviously had his game plan and for a split second it looked like backfiring when Iaquinta and Trezeguet played (you'd have to say) a brilliant one-two and he put the ball in the back of the net.
But to our credit we gradually began to find our feet and played our way back into the game. We have a lot of possession in games and this one was the same. Drogba's free kick was a definite goal even to the naked eye on TV and the fact that Buffon's guilty reaction to one of our boys rather than kick the ball down the pitch reiterated that fact.
We could of let this play on our minds and take away our focus, but Lampard stepped up once again and let another one fly which was deflected onto the crossbar beating Buffon all ends up and "The Bison" did great to follow up and put it in the back of the net!
Once the goal went in and we went into half time i am sure other Chelsea fans like me felt a whole lot better. To me it seemed game over.
Added to that the sending off helped us too. Just a shame Belletti's mistake (what was he doing by the way) gave away the penalty and it was calmly slotted (weak if you ask me) away by Del Piero.
Squeaky Bum time again for me i have to say even though we were only playing ten men!. But towards the end of the game Belletti made up for his mistake by playing the killer pass for Drobga to fire home and that was it game over!
All in all a great result even if at times done the hard way. I still feel we lack the killer instinct at times, and lack the final ball that can kill teams off dead sooner rather than later. Ballack still needs to step up to the plate if you ask me. He passing and work rate can't be faulted but he needs to put his Germany head on when he pulls on the Blue Shirt and get firing. But we have to remember we are ONLY five games into Gus's reign and i am sure he will come good just when we need him too!
Up the Blue Boys!
