There are FOUR areas that Chelsea need to strengthen this summer according to various newspaper reports with a whole host of names being linked to Chelsea this summer. What areas do you think that Chelsea MUST improve heading into next season?
The consensus through the press and the media is that Chelsea are looking for a left-back, a centre-back, an attacking midfielder and a striker ; in addition to the signing of Hakim Ziyech which has already been sealed. I am going to ignore the situation with Kepa Arrizabalaga as that is for discussion in a separate article posted at the same time as this one so will head over to online casino websites instead.
Back to the four areas that need improvement and I want to take this opportunity to discuss what I believe to be the basic requirements for the roles and the players we already have here this season, whether they fit the role etc.
Starting with the left-back and the requirements under Frank Lampard from what we have seen this season. It’s clear that there is no set formation and the use of a full-back in addition to adjusting the role to a wing-back has been apparent. However, there is a requirement to defend first which in my view lets both our options down in Emerson and Marcos Alonso.
Both are not the best with the defensive side of their games and better with the ball at their feet going forward. Both are suited to the wing-back role with Alonso much more influential in and around the oppositions box. It’s clear we need someone in that is equally good at both roles and at both the defensive and attacking side of the game. Let me kno what you think, While you do that, I am off to check out the best us casinos online.
Now to the centre-backs and the basic requirements for Frank Lampard. You need to be solid in the tackle, mobile/quick, good in the air and to have ability with the ball at your feet. You also need to be flexible to cope with playing as part of two centre-backs or part of a back-three which we have seen on numerous occasions.
Toni Rudiger ticks all the boxes whereas Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori are all lacking with the ball at their feet in my view but have good qualities in other areas.
The attacking midfielder the press is referring to would be someone who can play out wide but also someone who can play inside as a number ten. We have seen Frank Lampard play a 4-3-3 formation with two wingers, a 4-2-3-1 formation with a number ten playing just off of the striker and alongside two wingers, and on occasion we have seen us play with wing-backs to enable us to play with two number tens in behind the striker with freedom to move around and find the space.
Mason Mount has proven that he can adapt to play all roles. Christian Pulisic can do the same in addition to Willian. Ross Barkley can only really play through the middle, so he is not considered here. Pedro is more of a winger as is Callum Hudson-Odoi. Hakim Ziyech has proven that he can play all the roles needed.
The main striker in the team is someone who would be described as the complete forward, someone who can do it all when required dependant on the formation we are playing. Good with the ball at their feet, quick, mobile, good in the air, strong and someone who can finish.
Tammy Abraham has hit the ground running but needs to develop his hold-up play and his strength. Olivier Giroud has it all apart from pace and Michy Batshuayi is lacking in the same area as Tammy Abraham for me.
I posted a video on here detailing all the transfer names we are being linked with asking you who YOU wanted to see Chelsea sign in the summer. Based on the requirements stated for the four main areas that we need to improve, who do you think fits the roles?
