I am a big, big fan of the Spanish striker and still firmly believe that we have a real gem on our hands despite what many people believe to be a disappointing season this time around. If you cast your minds back to the season leading up to Atletico Madrid away in the Champions League, you have to admit that he started the season in impressive fashion. He was scoring goals, playing with confidence and looked as though he would be challenging the likes of Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku to be top of the goal-scoring charts back then.
That all started to unravel when Morata was struck down with a back complaint which caused him real problems as he described recently:
"This was a new team and it was all perfect. We’d beaten Atletico Madrid and we were going well in the Premier League, then it all changed. I had to go several times to Germany to receive a treatment in which they put injections in my back. It hurt a lot and then I would have to return to London to train the next day.
I think I made a mistake. I should have stopped playing. When you’re injured, you’re injured, and that’s that. You can maybe play one match, but you can’t carry on for a month. On top of that, I didn’t have much luck during this time. If I’d scored in one of those matches then something would have changed."
As he says above, he should have stopped training and dealt with his the issues with his back properly but I guess being at a new club in a new country you are more than keen to impress which is why you can understand his willingness to go backwards and forwards to Germany.
In the last few months it's become obvious that he is more than frustrated with life and with how things have played out for him on the pitch. He is constantly seen arguing and gesticulating with Referee's and picking up needless bookings. This had led to the speculation we are reading and comments being made by the pundits and ex-pro's we have to sit and listen to every week.
So to Juventus and their offer to take him back to Turin, Italy. According to this article, the Italian side has made Chelsea an offer of a three-year loan deal totalling £52.8m broken down into three payments at the end of each year with the final instalment made to sign him on a permanent basis.
To quote the article:
"After the first 12 months, Juventus would pay £8.8m, then a further £17.6m after the second year — a final payment of £26.4m after year three, with that fee officially making him a Bianconeri player.
Chelsea are not overly thrilled with the structure of the deal, but accept it is their best chance to recoup such a big fee."
There is also the fact that Morata's wife comes from Turin and now expecting their first child, you would imagine that she would jump at the chance to move back to be near her family.
I sincerely hope that Alvaro Morata stays at Chelsea because believe me, he will turn into the success that I believe he can be if he stays fully fit and is able to play a full season.
The question is whether or not he wants to.
