It’s not an over-reaction as I love the man as much as the next person for what he did for our football club last season.
I have backed the Italian 150% ever seen he came to our club, despite the recent defeats of late and the turmoil this club has been through this season, I have stood firm with my support of Antonio Conte.
I have sided with him when it comes to the situation with how transfers are handled here, I have openly stated that he has already proven just how special he is and regarded as one of the world’s best coaches and that it was time that Roman Abramovich let go of the reigns to allow him to bring in the players he wants at the club because let’s face it, his record speaks for itself.
I have even asked to have the Antonio Conte of last season back here now, the man who took the league by storm and revolutionised the way we play winning the title against all odds.
Now, after watching that yesterday and the managers own performance in this game and last week, my feelings are beginning to change. I cannot and will not stomach the level of attacking performance from Chelsea that we had to sit and witness yesterday. When it was clear that changes needed to be made, Conte refused to make them until it was too late. We even took our best player out of the game by playing him as the focal point in a false-nine formation and had to sit and watch his frustrations in one of the biggest games of our season.
I want to take you back to last season, to something Antonio Conte often spoke of in his press conferences before and after games. He spoke on numerous occasions of the bad season two years ago now. He spoke of the fact that we must continue to work hard to ensue that there is no repeat performance because finishing outside of the top four for a club like Chelsea is unacceptable.
Now look at us under Conte this season. I no doubt that both he and the players are working hard throughout the week at Cobham. That’s all well and good but those same players must deliver what you are asking of them in the game.
Last season he managed to get the best out of the players he had at his disposal to work with, this year that had not happened for whatever reason. He has constantly complained about his squad and it’s now clear that his negative mentality was transferred itself to the players. That is unacceptable.
It’s clear that he refused to play certain players because of several reasons. David Luiz is injured but when fit doesn’t play because of their argument back in October. Danny Drinkwater – who I believe to be a good signing by the way, does not play if Bakayoko is fit. Ross Barkley is another who doesn’t seem to be involved even if fit and available and that’s discouraging, especially when it’s clear that defensive mistakes are being made and that players are not performing.
I can imagine that there are those people out there of the opinion that he almost wants to be pushed out of the door now and I can understand that when you see how he does not react quick enough in games to turn things around or makes the wrong decisions.
For me it’s now very, very clear. Antonio Conte, if you want to leave Chelsea then go now. If you don’t and you intend to stay here, sort yourself out for god sake and get this club out of the mess you have put us in.
