With reports stating that Antonio Conte is not happy at Chelsea and will leave at the end of the season, the Italian has responded in typical fashion to maintain his commitment.
There has been so much negativity surrounding Chelsea and our head coach in particular of late (as featured in the two previous articles also posted a short time ago on here.
Many people believe that he will leave us, some have said that could be BEFORE the end of the season and additional reports have linked Conte with a return to Italy to take over the national team stating that Alessandro Costacurta intends to come to London to speak with Conte about a return to manage the Azurri.
When asked in his pre-match press conference ahead of Watford on Monday night, Chelsea’s head coach has distanced himself with a defiant message to those who doubt his desire to remain at Chelsea. He said:
“Costacurta is a friend, we played together for the national team in 1994. Maybe he forgot I still have 18 months of contract at Chelsea. My intention, will and desire is to respect the contract.
I must be honest, no. I think that from the start of the season there are a lot of rumours around me. The only thing I can say is I have 18 months of contract with Chelsea, and my will and desire is to stay here and continue our work. I don't see problems about this.
I repeat my intention and my will is to respect the contract. I signed a three-year contract and our desire is to continue to respect the contract.
But from the start of the season, after our defeat, there was a lot of speculation about me being sacked. I am not interested in this. My desire is to be focused on the team. We must be prepared.”
An excellent retort from the Italian in my view but it will not put an end to the constant speculation that surrounds his future beyond this season. However, for Chelsea fans it’s excellent news but a shame that this year he has had to speak out repeatedly the same thing.
I’ve said it recently, it will be the biggest mistake that Roman Abramovich and the Chelsea board ever make if they were to let him go. The transfer window is a sign that they intend to back him and get behind him between now and the end of the season which is a good sign.
Chelsea fans need to maintain their focus on Antonio Conte leading our challenge this and next season and ignore all the bullshit being written on what seems like a daily basis.
Forza Conte! Forza Chelsea!
