According to Spanish news outlet Marca, Real Madrid have decided to drop their interest in signing Eden Hazard in a British record transfer deal this summer which is fantastic news for Chelsea.
It's fantastic news if there is real substance of these reports but at the moment I would take the news with a pinch of salt because as we know, everything can change between now and the end of the season.
The reason that the claims are being made by Marca is because Real Madrid have decided to invest their focus on the new exciting talent that has emerged in the last two seasons - Marco Asensio. The 21-year-old has impressed since Zinedine Zidane has decided to involve him in the first team, especially in the Champions League last year.
As for Eden Hazard, on the pitch nothing will change and we hope that he continues his excellent form for Chelsea. Off the pitch there is certain to be discussions and communication between the Chelsea hierarchy and Hazard's representatives despite claims made by his father last week that a new extended contract offer (reported to be around £300,000 per week) was rejected.
This is far from the end of the speculation with Eden Hazard and Real Madrid between now and the end of the season but we wait to see what happens to them in La Liga. At the moment, they sit way off of the pace being set by Barcelona and under pressure after being beaten 0-3 at home by the side from Cataluna. Zinedine Zidane is now under immense pressure to turn their season around and hunt down Barca. You would have to imagine that if he fails and dependant on where they finish, he could find himself out of a job at the end of the season.
Where would that leave Eden Hazard who has always spoken openly about Zidane being his footballing hero. Would that put the nail in the coffin for the Belgian and make a decision to stay here? Or would the obvious lure of playing for arguably the biggest club in the world be too much to reject?
Only time will tell.
