According to various reports, Chelsea have identified West Ham striker Andy Carroll as their replacement for Michy Batshuayi for the remainder of the season as the Belgian striker is looking to leave on loan.
It comes as somewhat of a surprise move with plenty of Chelsea fans baffled at the idea of Andy Carroll who let's face it is one dimensional, coming into Chelsea to be the alternative option to Alvaro Morata. It's hard to believe that there is real substance in the rumour but for now, until there is official comment, we have to consider that it could happen.
In my opinion we should be looking at a better alternative if Chelsea are looking to replace Michy Batshuayi with an out-an-out number nine. For example, Christian Benteke is a far better option that Carroll in my view and offers a team much more than just a long ball up to him. He has a better scoring record, has better ability with the ball at his feet and is much more involved in the general team play.
I am trying to understand where the rumour has come from? Is it purely and simply because of the real lack of English born players within our squad? Danny Drinkwater has come in during the summer transfer window and it now seems as though Ross Barkley is about to boost our ranks so is Carroll a realistic option purely because he is English?
So what does Andy Carroll give to a team? The answer is obvious, a complete aerial threat to which you have to hold your hands up and admit that he is one of the best at what he does. He would provide us with an option to play up to but is he good enough to hold it up and play other people into the game which is what our style is all about?
I hope that this is just pure speculation based on complete fabrication. Surely there are better options for Chelsea other than Andy Carroll?
