According to various reports, Antonio Conte has re-iterated his desire to sign Brazilian left-back Alex Sandro from Juventus in the January transfer window and could finally get his man in a cut price £50m deal.
As we all know, Chelsea tried to sign the Brazilian left-back in the summer but walked away from a potential deal when Juventus would not budge on their asking price which was reportedly set at £80m.
However, in recent months, Alex Sandro has fallen out of favour with the Juventus Coach and some of their backroom team according to reports and the exciting full-back has stated his desire to leave the club as quickly as possible.
This report states that Juventus Coach Massimiliano Allegri has already identified a potential replacement but would need to raise the additional funds required to try and sign him. As a result, Sandro could be made available for a fee of £50m next month with Conte and Chelsea ready to pounce.
So what of Alex Sandro and the Chelsea connection? Well it's clear that we need another left wing-back to cover for Marcos Alonso who has been outstanding since he arrived here last summer. It's all well and good playing the likes of Davide Zappacosta there in the odd game (as he is expected to do so tomorrow night as Alonso is suspended) but he is not the long-term answer and that also is the case in my view for Cesar Azpilicueta now either as he has become far too important to us as a centre-back for Antonio Conte's three-man defence.
Alex Sandro has demonstrated that he is more than willing to get up and down that touchline providing support to our attackers in addition to getting back to assist his defensive team mates. The only problem would be deciding who would be the number one if he did sign for Chelsea? £50m is a lot of money and signing for anyone else, you would have to believe that they would walk right into the first team. Would he do that here with Alonso playing as well as he is?
We shall see what happens. It will be more than interesting to see how this potential deal plays out next month.
What do you think of Alex Sandro?
