Chelsea take on Atletico Madrid on match day two of the Champions League and this is a massive game for the club. However, for Eden Hazard and N'Golo Kante, this game is a chance to finally show their quality on Europe's biggest stage.
Eden Hazard.
Now many people may scoff at the fact I am referring to Eden Hazard in addition to N'Golo Kante with the Frenchman making his debut tonight. However, for me I personally think that we haven't seen what Eden Hazard is capable of in the biggest games as yet.
We have seen Hazard take the smaller teams apart in the Champions League whether that's scoring goals, setting them up or with displays of his fantastic technical abilities. It's when it comes to the big, big games in this competition that we have not see him demonstrate the same.
There is always talk of Hazard being compared to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi and people are right to do so but as someone who is right behind them looking to take that step up to get to their level. In order to do so, he needs to get to a level of consistency, to deliver big performances week in, week out (or at least every other week) to make his mark. He will never score as many goals as they do by playing in the Premier League but he needs to also improve the goals scored consistency in both Europe and the domestic competitions.
We all know that Eden Hazard has the ability to get out there tonight and win this game by himself. If Chelsea are to get a good result this evening, against the team that has challenged for the Champions League Final in recent seasons then we need Eden Hazard at his best. If we get that from him, who knows where it can take us this season.
N'Golo Kante.
What a night this will be for arguably the most effective defensive midfielder in the Premier League over the past two seasons. Having turned down the chance to take part in the Champions League last season by deciding to join Chelsea and the Antonio Conte revolution, Kante will take his place in the Chelsea team for his first big European away game.
I am torn if I am honest and I am only saying that because we all know just how amazing he is. I know that he will have a major influence on our results in this seasons competition because he is that good.
However, playing the Champions League will only heighten the awareness of his talent (which is ridiculous to say because everyone would be aware of him by now) and the further Chelsea progress in the competition, it will only showcase just how amazing he is in the midfield.
He will come up against the likes of Koke, Saul and Gabi this evening. They will not know what has hit them when they come up against his speed and movement. If Chelsea can win the ball back quickly and in Atletico's half through the likes of Kante and Bakayoko, we could really hurt them and punish them to make a real statement of intent this evening.
This could be a really, really big night for Chelsea as we look to keep it tight, then hit them on the counter attack to win the game. We need everyone on form if we are to come away with the right result but for Eden Hazard and N'Golo Kante in particular, this could be the night when they really make their mark.
Come on Chelsea
