One of our brightest talents Dominic Solanke has rejected a new Chelsea contract due to lack of first team opportunities and has signed for Liverpool for a reported £20,000 per week with a fee to be decided by tribunal which will be between £2m - £3m.
So much was made of Solanke and his wage demands at Chelsea previously. We had read reports which I had featured on here that his representatives were demanding a new deal worth £50,000 per week or he would look to leave the club. At the time all of us thought that was disgusting and he had surrounded himself with the wrong advisers based on the same reports.
Now it turns out that the reason he rejected a new deal at Chelsea was due to the apparent lack of first team opportunities. Looking at the argument from both sides of the story here you can firstly understand what he is saying if we look at Michy Batshuayi this season, who up until recently had hardly featured. What chance would the likes of Solanke have had if he was here?
Then again on the other side of the argument you would have to point out that now we are back in the Champions League, the likes of Solanke would have had a chance to take part in the League and FA Cup's next season with the Premier League also taking priority with Europe's biggest club competition. It would be a fantastic opportunity to show the manager what you can do.
He decided against staying and has signed for Liverpool but according to this report in The Guardian, he is going to find himself in a similar situation to that if he had stayed at Stamford Bridge.
The report states that Jurgen Klopp intends to play Solanke in the Liverpool Under-23 side as he looks to stockpile that age group to develop the next wave of first team players coming through so he will have to bide his time again. He is thought to be earmarked to appear in the cup competitions this coming season.
It's clear he has immense talent and a fantastic eye for a goal. Maybe a move away from Stamford Bridge is the best thing for him as it appears that he would have only be loaned out by us next season anyway.
There is little doubt that with the right attitude and hard work, Solanke could really make a name for himself. It's just a shame it's at Liverpool.
