Having won the Premier League for a second time and as he prepares to add the FA Cup Final to his list of honours tomorrow, it appears that Diego Costa is thinking about staying at Chelsea.
This week seems to have been massive for everyone at the football club and for Costa. Earlier in the week we heard a statement released by Tianjin Quanjian distancing themselves with a continued effort to sign the Spanish striker. It said:
"For the past six months, our club have not involved in any form of communication and negotiation with Diego Costa nor his representatives.
Our club will draw up a rational transfer plan as an aim to improve the spectator experience of the Chinese Super League and meet its sustainability demands.
We won’t take part in any unhealthy competition, thus preventing all overpriced signings." Source: London Evening Standard.
I take that statement as an end to their interest and the reported £76m signing of Costa on wages that had previously been stated at £600,000 per week. If this is the case, then where does that leave Costa?
According to one additional report here, it's being claimed that when Chelsea rejected the advances from the far east back in January, they followed up with a new contract offer of £220,000 per week which at this point remains unsigned by Diego Costa. However, with the new development from China, it's believed that if he was offered £300,000 per week, he would be more than happy to sign and stay at Chelsea. The report also goes on to state that Antonio Conte is doing his best to convince the Chelsea board to keep him here rather than spend £50+ on a new signing.
You look at footage of Costa in and around the dressing room these passed few weeks with all of the title celebrations, you see him in training and interacting with the public at Cobham and he looks like he is really happy.
I want Diego Costa to stay at Chelsea as I love the bloke. I never thought we could find someone who had the same presence on the pitch up front as Didier Drogba but we have. He has it all in his locker and you will see in the video below, he scores all sorts of goals. We MUST do everything to keep him!
Could Chelsea's title win led by the passion of Antonio Conte forced Diego Costa to change his mind and remain in West London? We will just have to wait and see.
