As with any January transfer window, there will always be plenty of rumour and speculation but one report that is doing the rounds has caught my eye - Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan to West Ham.
Now that would be (in my eyes) a real turn up for the books considering that RLC was preparing to continue his recent progression with our first team this season. Last season was a real breakthrough year for him and he became an important member of our squad. Fast forward to the current day and RLC has hardly been involved at all.
It's clear to see that the tactical change made by Antonio Conte has had an effect on the majority of players we have in a positive way. However, those players who play through the middle of midfield and venture further forward have struggled to be involved as a result and if you purchased your Chelsea Tickets with a view to catching a glimpse of them at Stamford Bridge you would leave disappointed.
Just look at Cesc Fabregas and his restricted involvement, look at Oscar and the fact that he is leaving next month to go to China and add RLC to the equation and he has hardly featured at all. It's a big, big problem and a massive switch from the days of Frank Lampard making deep runs from midfield as part of a midfield three.
So to RLC and this current plight. He is at such a crucial time in his development and would be disappointed to have not kicked on this season at Chelsea under Antonio Conte. The Manager spoke of him last week and his current situation and pretty much gave an indication that a loan move was on the cards next month. He said:
"I'm sure that Ruben has great potential.
I think it's important to show this, to improve a lot on different aspects. Now he's in our squad. This season, he had a few injuries.
But now he's in good form and I count on him.
There will be a moment when I speak with my club and take the best decision, but I count on him because I think he has good potential." Source: Express.
So what of a possible move on loan to West Ham? Putting our London rivalry to one side just to concentrate on the Football it would be a good move for him in my view. They have some real quality in the team and his playing style would suit. It's my view that they do not have a box-to-box midfielder or at least someone prepared to break from deep and get themselves into the box with a Lampard-esque late run and RLC would be perfect for that.
It's clear that he needs to he playing at Premier League level and if West Ham are prepared to do that whereas Chelsea struggle to fit him in then let him go and play in East London.
What do you people think?
