According to various reports, West Ham are bracing themselves for a stream of offers in January for Dimitri Payet and have identified out of favour Cesc Fabregas as the man to replace him.
You could say upon reading the headline above that for both parties, this season has been a massive disappointment so far (despite West Ham fans telling you that they beat us!). West Ham have made a slow start in the Premier League as they tried to come to grips with moving to the new stadium and as for Cesc Fabregas, he finds himself out of favour (although currently injured) and facing a struggle to get back into the Chelsea team.
So to Payet and it's being reported that Paris St Germain are looking to make a massive bid, possibly as much as three times the £11m paid for the French star, in January with the player being open to a move after becoming frustrated with life in East London and West Ham's start to the season.
Payet spoke recently and said:
“We’ve had a poor start. Leave in January? I’m asking other questions but I’m not closing the door to anything. It’s always the sports project that interests me. I work like that and until I play at a level like this, it will be the case.” - Source: London Evening Standard.
So to Cesc Fabregas reportedly being lined up as a potential replacement for Payet. First and foremost I do not see West Ham as being a direct rival for a top four finish this season, so it's not a problem if he does move across London for the remainder of the year. With outright winning odds of 6/1 being quoted at sites like enhancedbets.co.uk, it seems unlikely that his departure will affect The Blue’s overall championship prospects.
For the player himself, he would not have to leave London and his family would remain settled which is key in any transfer negotiation but being given an opportunity to play on a regular basis would also appeal to the Spanish Midfielder.
I personally would still like to see Cesc Fabregas fit into our plans under Antonio Conte but you cannot argue with the players who ARE currently playing and just how well they are performing. It's going to be hard for anyone to get into the Chelsea team let alone Fabregas with the quality he has.
I just wonder if there is an actual substance in these rumours of Payet and Fabregas or if this is total fabrication based on the current situations they both face at their individual clubs? If there is substance in the reports, it would be interesting to see what happens if PSG come in and Payet leaves.
What do you think of the reports? Would you be happy if Fabregas left Chelsea in January?
