As expected with Jose Mourinho joining Manchester United, there will be all sorts of players being linked with a move to Old Trafford. According to reports today, The Special One is preparing a double your money offer for Willian and is prepared to pay £60m this summer!
I wrote an article two days ago listing the five players that I believe Jose would be interested in signing here, Willian was listed as one of those five so news of reported interest has not come as a surprise. It's whether or not the player himself is prepared to stay at Chelsea and work under Antonio Conte or if he would be interested in linking up with his old boss.
Recent comments made by Willian will only add fuel to the speculation that is going to intensify over the next few weeks.
When asked of Jose Mourinho to Manchester United and his thoughts on him, he said:
“Jose is one of the most successful coaches in the world and Manchester United will be stronger with him as manager.
I played some of my best football under Mourinho. He is a special coach and I have a great relationship with him.
Winning the Premier League with him was one of the highlights of my career. I was sad things didn’t work out after that."
Willian was then asked if he would like to work with Mourinho again and responded by saying:
“I don’t think about that. I’m here on Copa America duty with Brazil and I’m not here to do interviews about other things.”
Worrying times if you ask me and if you were in his shoes, you could only be frustrated at having to carry everyone through the season. Despite winning the Player of the Year a week or so ago, to finish as low as Chelsea has must ring alarm bells and now Jose Mourinho, a proven winner and someone who almost guarantee's results, is moving to Manchester, if an offer came in I believe he would consider it.
I am repeating myself on here lately but Chelsea simply cannot afford to let him go. If we are to realistically challenge to get back inside the top four next season we MUST keep hold of ALL or MOST of our best players. Let's also not forget that Chelsea could stand firm here to deny Mourinho and make things awkward. I just hope the player himself re-affirms his commitment to Chelsea in the coming days and ignores any advances from up north!
What do you think of Willian and the possible link to Jose Mourinho at Manchester United?
