An interesting development this morning as far as potential summer signings are concerned. Chelsea have reportedly asked for Theo Walcott or Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain as part of a deal for Petr Cech!
A "Source" has been quoted as saying:
"Arsene Wenger wants a top keeper from us. Well, in exchange we want Walcott or Oxlade-Chamberlain. They may not be in the Arsenal team but we are convinced Jose Mourinho could make them into top players again."
So what do you think of this "reported" request? Who would you choose out of the two? One thing to consider before you answer is what happened to Juan Mata and Kevin De Bruyne!
Jose Mourinho likes his players to work hard without the ball and its an essential part of the makeup of our team. If someone doesn't pull their weight without the ball and neglects their defensive responsibilities (Hazard last season against Atletico for example), it creates problems and opens ourselves up.
We also have to consider what either of them would bring to the side in terms of our attacking play and for me Theo Walcott stands out ahead of Oxlaide-Chamberlain.
Let's face it, I can never understand personally why Walcott isn't a regular starter in the Arsenal side. His pace alone should force him into contention as he demonstrated once again last night that he could change a game in an instant. All it takes is one ball over the top or down the channel and he is in!
Arsenal fans will point to the fact that he is either inconsistent or injury prone and I get that but surely a run of games would be of a benefit to him?
The "Ox" is a good player but doesn't offer as much as Walcott would. As Chelsea fans will tell you, one of the main areas we need to improve on is the opposite side to Eden Hazard and Oxlaide-Chamberlain couldn't offer you the same pace as Walcott and that is key.
I do have my doubts about both of them without the ball and the defensive side of their game. If one of them comes here and are willing to do the dirty work for Mourinho then we could see their game raise to another level.
The question remains whether or not Arsene Wenger will want to do business in the first place?
What do you people think and who would you rather have if we had a choice?
