According to reports over the last few days, Chelsea are rumoured to be interested in making a move for TWO Manchester City players - Eden Dzeko and Yaya Toure. Do we think they will leave City this summer?
Edin Dzeko.
Now it's not the first time both players have been linked with Chelsea, with Dzeko only being linked with us this time last season but, after a disappointing season, you have to wonder if there is substance in these reports this time around?
Eden Dzeko is someone who has had to face life at City being in and out of the team. When you are up against Sergio Aguero I guess you have to admit you are never going to force him out of the side but when called upon the big striker normally delivers.
He is quick, agile, mobile, good on the ball and good in the air and a real asset to City but looking from the outside in, you have to feel that he needs to playing more games now and I just wonder if he will choose this summer to make a move away from the Etihad?
If Chelsea lose Didier Drogba this summer and despite all the other names we are being linked with, Dzeko would be right up there as a priority if he was to be made available. We have the battering ram/goal machine that is Diego Costa, we have the pace and finishing of Remy and Dzeko could be that someone in between for us.
I doubt that City would want to see him leave and would make life very, very difficult if he was to choose a top four rival but it will be interesting to see what happens.
Yaya Toure.
The most interesting report is over the future of Yaya Toure and a possible link with a shock move to Chelsea. My initial reaction was that we have been here before haven't we. Toure seems to be linked with a move away virtually every season and we often read quotes made by his agent talking up leaving City.
The cynical side of me at the moment sees the fact that Toure has been well below par this season compared to least and that's been one of the deciding factors in City giving up their title this term. Knowing that, it's no surprise his agent has been quoted once again stating this time that his client is "90% certain to leave City" at the end of the season!
Toure 31 has two years left on his current contract which is a reported £220,000 per week and if this time his agent means business, it's going to take a hefty fee to match his current wage to convince City to sell. Would they consider selling to Chelsea or any of the other top four rivals?
Toure has obvious quality which is proven in this league. He would be a fantastic foil for Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas in the heart of the Chelsea midfield if we were able to sign him. However, I can see nothing in this at all unless the player really, really pushes for a move.
City's lack of progress in the Champions League (which makes our record look astonishing by the way) could be a real factor in the players decision over his future. Although City have taken major steps forward in establishing themselves in our domestic competitions, it's in Europe that they have fallen short which is hard to believe based on their current squad.
We also have to consider that Manuel Pellegrini's future is uncertain with Carlo Ancelotti being linked with the job this summer. If the Italian who won the double at Chelsea in 2009-10 was to move to Manchester, you would imagine that the owners would find a way to bankroll plenty of signings to revamp their squad.
Does that mean Yaya Toure will leave the Etihad this summer? I am not so sure!
