Jose Mourinho sprung a tactical surprise with his team selection and it turned out to be a stroke of genius as Chelsea beat Tottenham 2-0 to win the first trophy of the new era under the Special One.
Goals from John Terry and Diego Costa sealed the victory at Wembley which will hopefully lift everyone to kick on now and aim for more glory at the end of the season.
Jose Mourinho knowing he had no Nemanja Matic or Mikel to call upon in the defensive midfield area, selected Kurt Zouma to play deep in midfield with Fabregas and Ramires either side of him and it worked a treat.
But for a couple of moments during the whole of the game, the two main threats for Tottenham, Eriksen and Kane were ineffective as Chelsea with their compact midfield, nullified the space that the North London side had previously exposed at White Hart Lane earlier in the season.
I have said it many times before, Chelsea's ability to manage a game for 90 minutes was there for all to see and once we took the lead we never looked like losing!
A Willian free kick was floated into the box and as players jostled on the six yard box, the ball fell to John Terry and with the aid of a deflection, slotted the ball home from eight yards right on half time to give Chelsea the lead.
Diego Costa, with yet another assist from Cesc Fabregas, drove the ball home with another deflection past Lloris in goal late in the game to win it.
It was nothing that we didn't deserve after dominating the game after a bright opening from Tottenham.
Eriksen hit the crossbar from a free kick and Petr Cech had to save low down at his near post in the first half but that was as close as Tottenham came to scoring.
Petr Cech had a solid game in goal. The whole back four played well and it was nice to see Gary Cahill have a good game next to John Terry who stood out once again and demonstrated his leadership on the big stage. Terry was later awarded the man of the match.
Kurt Zouma did the job he had been brought into the side to do next to the busy Ramires and the class of Cesc Fabregas.
Eden Hazard and Willian both had good games and worked hard without the ball as normal. Both provided a constant threat to Tottenham down the aides of the pitch.
Up top Diego Costa played well in addition. Always hassling defenders, making runs off the ball and being a menace to the opposition back line. I was pleased to see him get on the score sheet once again.
It really was a good performance from the Blues and delivers the first trophy of the new Mourinho era.
Let's hope it's the start of many more!
