Andre Schurrle finds himself out of the side and not in favour for a regular first team start at the moment. Tonight against Sporting Lisbon he is set to be handed another chance and MUST take it with both hands!
Having scored Chelsea's first goal of the season, latching on the arguably the pass of the season from Cesc Fabregas at Burnley, life seemed to be pretty good for Schurrle having just previously returned from playing a pivotal role in winning the World Cup Final for Germany.
Now five months on, Schurrle finds himself benched week in, week out and it's a tough time for the winger at Stamford Bridge.
Schurrle like many others struggled for form whereas the likes of Oscar, Willian and Eden Hazard have all excelled. As a result the manager has pretty much stuck to the same starting eleven over the past six or seven weeks and Schurrle has had to settle to life on the subs bench.
As I have said, tonight he should get his chance once again and he MUST provide the boss with a problem going forward with a good and impressive response to being given that chance. He cannot afford another below par performance.
What does Schurrle offer Chelsea?
The answer is important goals. How many times has he popped up with some really important strikes?
Surely sitting on the bench watching the work rate of Hazard, Oscar and Willian without the ball has opened his eyes to the fact that he must work hard if he want to be considered for a regular start.
Never afraid to take people on, never afraid to come inside and take a shot on, I just hope that tonight if he does start, he doesn't become greedy and will look to shoot from all angles rather than look for a better option in and around the box.
As we have seen plenty of times, Schurrle can make a real difference in this Chelsea team but he faces a fight to get back in favour with the boss.
Let's hope Schurrle gives the manager, the players and the supporters a performance we are looking for and plays an instrumental part in another Chelsea victory tonight!
