Cesar Azpilicueta has been praised left, right and centre from various people for his form at Chelsea ever since he made the left back position his own. Now, he's been named as the best Defender in the League!
Speaking a few weeks ago, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher on SkySports' Monday Night Football, were asked who they each believed to be the best and BOTH stated that followed closely by Gary Cahill, John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic, Azpi was the best:
I am keen to hear your opinion's on their verdict. There is little doubt that he is right up there with the best of them, I just wonder if he IS the best or does the position of full back, compared to a centre back, paper over mistakes because they often aren't punished as much as a mistake a centre half makes?
For example, if Azpi was beaten down the line and someone like James Milner or Raheem Sterling got passed and put a cross into the box it could be cleared or mopped up by Cahill or JT (not that Azpi is beaten much anyway!).
Whereas, if Gary Cahill or JT slip up it could prove costly through the middle and a striker could find himself in on goal. Do you see the point I am trying to make here?
So what do you think. Is Cesar Azpilicueta the best out and out defender in the Premier League?
