We are a week away from the start of the Premier League season and it's seems Chelsea are most pundit's tips for the Premier League title. Gary Neville believes it's going to be very difficult to stop Chelsea.
Now being honest with you, I couldn't stand Gary Neville as a player but as a pundit, he has more than breached the gap after the departure of Andy Gray. Neville in my view, is one of the top pundits in the country and has earned the respect of people up and down the land who had the opposite opinion of him as a player.
So to this season. Everyone has an opinion in football as I do here but that's the beauty of the game isn't it. We all love meeting up with mates, airing our views and having a debate about our club and our game.
So for the past three months, apart from the distraction of the World Cup, we've had to wait for the new season and it's now almost upon us.
We have seen each and every single club buy and sell players and release players, we have seen managers come and go and have seen Liverpool spend over £100m on new players after the departure of Luis Suarez hoping that they do "another Tottenham" and we can sit and watch their demise over the next nine months!
So to Chelsea and the opinions of those that matter in the game. Well I say those that matter, but those who are important to us personally with the articles and quotes we look for week in, week out. That takes me to quotes made by Gary Neville ahead of the new season.
When asked who he believes are title favourites ahead of the new season he said:
“If you look at Courtois, Cech, Ivanovic, Terry, Cahill, Matic, Willian, Hazard, Costa, Fabregas, they’re going to take some stopping. They’re my tips for the league.
Last year Mourinho was trying to pinch a league and probably should have done better with the points they dropped. The additions of Costa and Drogba as an understudy who might play 15 matches are important. They really struggled up front last season. Torres, Eto’o and Ba fell short of what’s required at the highest level and it cost them. The rest of the team didn’t look too bad. With the addition of another goalscoring midfielder in Fabregas and a powerhouse up front, Costa, with Drogba, it makes them very difficult to stop.”
I believe him and it's important that you all do too. Granted we came up a little bit short last season but you all have to admit, all we lacked was that killer pass and someone to stick the ball in the back of the net. In Costa and Fabregas we now have that.
If you add Didier Drogba to the equation and a player that gives us the option to change our playing style to lump the ball up to him to hold it up, turn a defender or to just feed off of him and bring others into play, it seems that Jose Mourinho has plugged the gaps that existed within our squad last season.
I believe Gary Neville in the fact that on paper, Chelsea will be difficult to stop. What do YOU think?
(For all those that haven't seen Gary Neville on SkySports doing his analysis with Jamie Carragher on the Monday Night Football, have a watch of this from the day after Chelsea beat Liverpool at Anfield 2-0. Neville comes in at about 5:30 but I would advise to watch all of it!)
