David Luiz has been linked with a move to Barcelona for what seems like ever since he arrived at Chelsea. According to the latest reports, Luiz has already agreed a five year deal to sign for the Catalan side with the fee to be negotiated with Chelsea.
I just wonder what you think of the possible departure of David Luiz now to that of this time last season? Has your opinion of Luiz changed or do you think that the real emergence of Gary Cahill has possibly forced Chelsea's hand as we look to the future?
Under Rafa Benitez, Luiz stepped into midfield and has never really looked back despite the fact he plays and will start for Brazil as a centre back.
He has so much ability and with the ball at his feet, he is fantastic. I guess even now, questions are still being asked of what he does without the ball and that's the biggest problem we face.
Jose Mourinho as we know, likes a solid base to build his teams from. He likes knowing that he has defensive stability in order to give the rest of the side licence to attack and because of that, we have hardly seen Luiz start as part of our back four this term.
Luiz has made virtually all of his performances in the midfield holding role, notably at Manchester City alongside Nemanja Matic where to a man the team was outstanding.
Like any player, Luiz is prone to making the odd mistake here and there but it has been interesting to see that he has hardly featured in his natural position and that's why I can see him moving to Barcelona.
I am a huge fan of Luiz, always have been but I think this season has really been a turning point for him. Luiz will play a huge part in the World Cup in his homeland this summer and would have the right to feel that he should be playing week in, week out. As I said, because of Gary Cahill I don't believe he would have that and comments made by the manager just the other day re-iterates the point.
Jose Mourinho, talking about next season, spoke of having stability in our midfield with Nemanja Matic playing alongside Ramires so it looks as though Luiz would have to settle for being on the bench.
I really hope he doesn't leave but I think now, for the first time, it looks a realistic possibility.
What do you people think? Do you see the situation with Luiz at Chelsea going forward the same as I do or different?
I think chelsea should sell Luiz to Barca and could make a profit out of it and reinforce its attacking side. Though I am a Barca fan I am also fan of Luiz and Always dreamed of Luiz in Barca.....Hope I'll see him at Camp Nou before World Cup
