What can we say about Samuel Eto'o now that Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he will leave Chelsea when his contract expires on 1st July? What do you think of his contribution to the Chelsea cause this season?
I will be honest, when he was signed at the end of the transfer window and whole host of thoughts went through my mind. First, I thought to myself that it was someone Jose Mourinho knew so the fact the manager has brought him in was fair enough. Secondly, I then thought how old is he? Is he passed it? Finally, I thought to myself he has signed as an obvious stop gap and I wonder if he would be able to score goals in the Premier League!
Nine months later and I personally feel that Eto'o was a good signing for the club, especially when we were in need of an alternative option after Romelu Lukaku was allowed to leave on loan.
Eto'o leaves here having featured in thirty five games in all competitions (nine as a substitute) and scored twelve goals with some being important goals against our major rivals in the league.
Who could forget his hat trick against Manchester United and his celebration at the corner flag after opening the scoring against Tottenham at home. Let's also not forget our opening goal against Arsenal in the 6-0 thumping at Stamford Bridge as Eto'o turned inside a floated a shot into the far corner.
Samuel Eto'o for me answered all my concerns about his age and whether or not he could still be an influence in a football match at the highest level. His all round game (after a few weeks) was good and he has provided some important assists.
Most importantly of all, Eto'o responded when he was asked to lead the line and to play an important role for Jose Mourinho. In some cases, he was selected ahead of Fernando Torres and that alone speaks for itself.
I would like to finish this post by saying:
"Thank you Samuel Eto'o for playing an important part in our season. Good luck in the future!"
What do you people think of Samuel Eto'o's contribution this season?
