Credit Liverpool for the fantastic run of form they are currently in, sitting top of the Premier League with the destiny of the title in their own hands. In two weeks time however, that will all change because they know, you know and the rest of the world knows that if there is one team that can go to Anfield and beat them in their own backyard, it's Chelsea!
I said it before we travelled to The Ethiad to face Manchester City and I am saying it again now because we all saw what happened to Manuel Pellegrini's men that night!
Don't get me wrong here, Liverpool will attack Chelsea the way they did against Manchester City on Sunday. Their first half performance was breathtaking and they played some fantastic football. If anything, they should have blown City away by half time but as we know they didn't.
What's encouraging for me is the second half and the fact that Liverpool couldn't live with City and were literally all over the place defensively, conceding two goals and if Sergio Aguero had slid his ball through to David Silva slightly better, Silva would have scored City's third goal of the half to take a 3-2 lead!
As we know Liverpool pounced on a defensive error to win the game and credit to them for showing great character and hanging on in there during difficult moments in the half. But, as I said, the second half really exposed Liverpool's defensive frailties that has cost them plenty of goals this season.
Chelsea will NEVER play as open as City or Liverpool for that matter. Chelsea are well organised, have the best defensive record in the Premier League and in Gary Cahill and John Terry, the best centre back pairing in the league without question.
We saw City struggle with their 4-4-2 formation up against the diamond Liverpool had played and Rahim Sterling and Coutinho found plenty of space during the first half to hurt City time and time again.
Chelsea's 4-2-3-1 formation will counter act Liverpool's with Nemanja Matic and one other sitting in front of the defence providing an important shield and foundation. Take my word for it, we all know that by the time Chelsea take to the field on that Sunday, Jose Mourinho would have studied Liverpool and found their weakness and set his team up to expose them.
People sit and moan about Chelsea as Manuel Pellegrini has recently, featured on my website yesterday. He has stated that teams that play attacking football should become Champions but to that I have argued the case that it's purely a results business now.
In the position Liverpool are in at the moment, I am sure every single one of their supporters would take any sort of victory against Chelsea at Anfield. It could be the most boring game of the season, they could set up in a defensive formation, play defensive football and the supporters wouldn't care, it's just the result after those all important ninety minutes that matters.
This is why Jose Mourinho was brought back to Chelsea, this is why he has had so much success in his career to date and will time and time again in the future. He knows what it takes to get the job done and most importantly of all, he has a squad of players who also know how to win the big games and to win trophies.
I read an article yesterday stating that everyone outside of our club hates Chelsea, every single neutral supporter in two weeks time will be supporting Liverpool and want to see Liverpool win the Premier League title. That's no problem for Jose, Chelsea or the supporters as far as Chelsea goes as we are used to it.
Being realistic, this title is still Manchester City's to lose. I predict Chelsea WILL win at Anfield meaning that if City win their two games in hand they go back to the top of the Premier League above Chelsea by a point so it's down to the results in their other games that matter.
Of course Liverpool travel to Norwich on Sunday after Chelsea face Sunderland at home on Saturday evening. On paper, both sides should take another three points to set things up perfectly for Anfield but stranger things have happened with both our opponents fighting for their lives.
In this title run in it's all about character of your team and how you can handle the pressure. We saw Steven Gerrard and rallying call to his players at the final whistle on Sunday. He has demanded they cope, he has demanded they deal with it and has demanded another three points against Norwich followed by three more against Chelsea.
However, I want to remind you all of the whole point of this post once again, every single Liverpool fan is looking at Anfield in two weeks time.
You are looking for character in your team, you are looking for players who can handle the pressure and you are looking for players and a manager who knows exactly what it takes in these moments, what it takes to grind out results and the will to never give up.
Back to back European Champions in the past two seasons, unbeaten against our title rivals so far this season including the 6-0 destruction of Arsenal and back to back victories over Manchester City home and away, this Chelsea team will head to Anfield knowing they have what it takes to beat Liverpool. Jose Mourinho has already masterminded a victory over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge and will do the same again a week on Sunday.
You know it, Liverpool fans deep down know it and the rest of the world knows it. If there is one team that can put an end to Liverpool's run of form and their title hopes by winning at Anfield it's Chelsea!
A Fernando Torres winner anyone?
