Gary Cahill in line for a new Chelsea contract?

I personally cannot say enough about Gary Cahill! Surely, he has to be one of the best defenders in the country right now and I am not saying that because I wear blue tinted glasses, it's fact! The reports that he is about to be offered a new four year deal at Chelsea is fantastic news if it's true!

For me, a centre half or centre back (depending on how you describe that position) should be old school and a no nonsense defender. A leader, an organiser and someone who you can rely on to give their all to stop the opposition scoring. Cahill is one of those people and more!

Now when I talk about a centre back being "old-school" I am referring to players such as John Terry, Jamie Carragher, Tony Adams, Terry Butcher and Chopper Harris. All of them renowned in the game to putting their bodies on the line to do everything they could to keep a clean sheet. To them, a clean sheet means the same as scoring down the other end.

You look at Cahill's reaction to a mistake being made or a goal going in and it hurts him and his reaction shows his frustration, he doesn't hide it and I love seeing that because it shows you just how much it means.

Cahill has had to cope this season with rotation and has got his head down, continued to work hard and just got on with his game. When he has been out of the side he hasn't moaned, when he has been selected he gives 100% week in, week out and his performances of late have been fantastic.

How many last ditch tackles and blocks have we seen? Just how quiet was Luis Suarez at Stamford Bridge the other day? Cahill has been immense.

People talk of what will happen when JT calls it a day and retires from the game? Well, I still believe he has a year or two left in him but for me Cahill is the natural replacement and future Chelsea and England Captain.

Without doubt, Cahill has proved he can make the step up at Chelsea and has grabbed the opportunity with both hands ever since he came here.

As I said, he has to be rated now as one of the best defenders in the country! Let's hope we get him signed up with the reported contract extension asap!
