Monday evening saw Chelsea's U21's side back in action following their draw at Reading looking to get back to winning ways. Wolves were to be the opponents and they would also be up against a very difficult pitch at Telford.

With regards to the team there was only the one change with Alex Kiwomya returning to the team following a period out with illness and Adam Nditi dropped to the bench. Mitchel Beeney continued in goal with Dabo, Christensen, Davy and Ake as the back 4 with Baker, Boga and Swift as the midfield and the forward line of Brown, Kiwomya and Feruz.

Meanwhile for Wolves they lined up with a team that has had plenty of first team experience this season and that would make things even more difficult for the Blues but as Dermot Drummy mentioned after the game these are the sort of challenges that you want for these young developing players.

The game would prove to be a tough one as the pitch was not in great condition to start with and cut up pretty quickly, by the end of the game the pitch resembled something that was ready for planting. But both sides had to content with that and it would be Wolves that took the lead taking advantage of Chelsea struggling to almost literally find their feet. A through ball right through the middle caught the Chelsea defenders napping and the quick Wolves player darted through and finished smartly leaving Beeney no chance.

Wolves would take advantage of their lead and continue to push Chelsea who were struggling to get a foothold in the game and they would have a few more chances to increase their lead but failed to take them and eventually Chelsea would get going and push a bit more to impose themselves on the game. Feruz would have a couple of chances to level things but did not take them until just before half time when his run was spotted by Boga who put a great ball through and Feruz was able to poke the ball past the keeper and send the teams in level at half time.

The second half would start with Chelsea starting to dominate proceedings and with Feruz looking lively but failing to take some opportunities it seemed like only a matter of time before a goal would come. There was a change made to the team with Kiwomya coming and Loftus-Cheek coming on to bring his imposing style onto the game.

Eventually Chelsea did take the lead and it would again come from Boga who beat a couple of defenders down the right hand side and whilst simultaneously trying to keep the ball in play and keep his balance he managed to flick the ball into Islam Feruz who immediately reacted and hit a fierce volley past the keeper.

The game then opened up a bit and both teams were going for goals with Wolves needing to equalise and Chelsea needing to kill the game. It would be Chelsea though that would get the best chance when Feruz was felled in the box after beating the Wolves defender to the ball. Lewis Baker takes all the penalties for the U21's but the penalty was offered to Feruz who took the chance to get his hat trick and he admitted afterwards that he was not prepared for it and in two minds and subsequently blasted the ball over the bar.

Thankfully it would not prove costly and Chelsea would see out the game and come away with a very solid 3 points and keep themselves in a strong position in the table. Next up for the U21's is a cup quarter final against Arsenal  on Monday followed by a league game on Friday against West Brom.
