Ever since it was revealed (and denied by the player) that he had submitted a transfer request towards the end of last season after being dropped for United's game against Real Madrid, the press and media have filled their pages and programmes with comment, speculation and opinion.
If anything, Rooney himself has kept his counsel and hasn't spoken out about the situation and to this point hasn't issued any statement at all.
Martin Lipton of the Mirror has written a good article this morning here. He explains how Jose Mourinho, sitting in the opposition dugout at Old Trafford the night Rooney was dropped, would have noticed the situation and he has taken his time, said all the right things and believes that Rooney will come to Chelsea.
I reported towards the end of last season that Roman Abramovich had sanctioned a £30m move for Rooney this summer and David Moyes' comments the other day WILL signal a move from Roman Abramovich in the coming days.
Will United turn down a bid of that amount for Rooney? What will it take for United to do business?
The fact that we know now, after two meetings with Moyes, Rooney is far from happy at United, there can only be one outcome and that will be that he will hand in a formal transfer request in the coming days.
Plenty of the big guns will want him but the lure of London and playing under Jose Mourinho, one of the greatest managers in the world, surely puts Chelsea in pole position to sign him.
I believe this WILL happen. What do you think?
