We are all sitting here waiting for 3rd June when it is expected to be confirmed that Jose Mourinho will make his return as Chelsea manager on a four year contract. The question I want answered by Chelsea fans reading this is to tell me what your expectation of him and Chelsea is for the coming season!
The reason I am asking is because it's important that we establish a level of expectation ahead of his appointment. It's important that we understand where we are at now and where we want to be and a time frame for that to happen.
For example, Chelsea have found themselves some considerable distance away from the Premier League title winners over the last two seasons. We have finished sixth and third respectively and have not been anywhere near even putting up a challenge for the title.
So, based on the previous two seasons, is it now realistic for us to say that we expect to make a realistic challenge for the title? Or, do we now expect to win the Premier League and anything less is a failure?
There is an argument that this coming season is Chelsea's big chance with new managers in charge of both Manchester City AND Manchester United! Is that a fair assessment?
What about the Champions League and the disaster of our attempt to defend the trophy this season? Where do we now expect a Chelsea team managed by Jose Mourinho to be? Knockout stages, Quarter Finals, Semi Finals or the Final?
These are things we all need to consider before Jose Mourinho arrives here and that's important for Roman Abramovich and the Chelsea board of directors also.
Just last week, we heard reports that he was to promote exciting youth talent at the club and move them into the first team. That's all well and good but to me it has be gradual as look what happened to Carlo Ancelotti in his second season here!
So Chelsea fans reading this no matter where you are in the world, I would like you to think about what I have written and the questions asked/points made above and answer the following question:
What is your expectation of Chelsea managed by Jose Mourinho next season?
Carefree & KTBFFH!
